what's the status of the opioid epidemic in loudoun?

I was driving home yesterday listening to our local news radio, on came a segment about county officials in Loudoun trying to figure out ways to deal with the opioid epidemic. I don't see how it could be that bad. I'm there often and nothing seems amiss, as in general environment. It's not rural or inner city.

You're probably in the Ashburn part, or maybe Purcellville/Round Hill. Parts of the county are still rural. Drive toward the far eastern part of the county, or toward West Virginia.

I'd Google news articles about opioid abuse in general to learn more, OP. One of the reasons it is getting coverage is because it is happening everywhere--thinking that only "rural or inner city" areas have the problem is way behind the times. This is an abuse problem in suburbs, among professionals, affluent people, people living paycheck to paycheck, anywhere. If you think this issue is just in poor areas or among people in the sticks or in the stereotypical urban environment you picture, you've missed the point of all the coverage. I think you're picturing the '80s and crack in big cities. The current opioid problem doesn't look like that.

Can someone explain why people even take opiods? I'm obviously sheltered.

Ask your kids about pill popping in high school. You'll be scared out of your mind. It's a problem.

It has hit the Winchester area (city west of Loudoun) hard. When there's no hope, people turn to dope.
