Daily health checks in daycare - new regulation?

Anonymous
Our daycare provider notified us today that starting tomorrow they will be required by OSSE to conduct daily health checks on the kids, twice a day, and keep a log of them, to be monitored by OSSE. Is this a new regulation being put in place for all daycares in DC? I tried looking it up and couldn't find anything. Thanks

Oh, crap!! I direct a DC center and better research this. Their new regs are making us all a little crazy! We are all required to take specific health and safety workshops (5-7, depending long whether you transport children and have infants and toddlers or not).

We did the a workshop on health and that includes that we "should do" health checks each morning to make sure children are healthy, check in re: add sleep well, etc. But it can be done by greeting the child and parents, saying "so how did you sleep?" and really looking at each child, that they look healthy, not feverish, etc. Not taking a temp, etc. Now, this isn't (to my understanding, but I'll check tomorrow) in the regs it's best practices."

DC preschool teacher here. Yes, as the 20:49 PP said, the health checks are recommended in the required health and safety training all child care/preschool teachers are taking this year.

I could see how a program might formalize this health check into its program with documentation. I don't know of a specific regulation in place requiring it, but I haven't looked for that.

Good grief does this really have to be regulated and documented on a daily basis? Our tax dollars at work ...

NP- I just searched the new regs and don't see any mention of daily health checks. We do it once a day when the child arrives, mainly because we had so many parents claiming their children were injured @ our center when they would come in that way.
