"Don't tread on me" license plate

Anonymous
New family moved in next door, fwiw we live in N. arlington. They have small children(similar in age to mine) and I met the mom and she seemed lovely. i noticed her husbands car this evening has "don't tread on me" license plate and a real tree(I think) bumper sticker. My husband said they are probably rednecks and very pro-gun. Would you still get to know this family or stay away?

This will probably be at least a 10-pager.

I wouldn't rely on prejudices or assumptions to decide whether someone is worthy of friendship or friendly neighborliness.

He probably likes to sport hunt and/or was in the military. He may be the best neighbor ever. Unlike you...

Well the last neighbor we had (CCDC) with that don't tread on me flag at his house turned out to be a pedophile that is doing time after the feds busted him for online child porn so I'm a little biased now. I used to think they were pro-gun xenophobic freaks, but now I think worse.

Teabagger type who voted for Trump because they think he's "not your regular politician" but too dumb to realize he is the EPITOME of the establishment.

OP, what's a real tree (I think) bumper sticker?

Have you googled them yet?

It's typically associated with the Tea Party. But my DH was in a military unit that used that slogan (in Hawaii, I think?). I think the flag was originally flown during the American Revolution,if I remember correctly.

In other words, I'm not sure I would judge neighbors based on a license plate.

Op here- The mom didn't seem very "redneck" and her kids were extremely polite. I'm not going to lie though, I have never seen anyone wear or display the "don't tread on me" sign that wasn't racist or very uneducated. Not judge mental as much as uneducated.

I am guessing you don't talk to many people unless they are just like you?

DH has a tea party plate. I really like real tree. He went to Yale undergrad/Harvard law. I went to Williams. We didn't vote for Trump, because, as PP indicated, he is the establishment (and because I don't think he is a good role model for our children). DH has guns though. And I am pretty judgmental, especially about people who call others uneducated immediately before misspelling "judgmental".

Oh. And DH isn't white.
