Back to school night: they're showing a video instead of having the principal and staff address us

This isn't my first rodeo, and our school hasn't never done this before. No seating, all the parents are crammed into the cafegymatorium, and they're playing a video of the principal (who isn't here tonight) and the vice-principal (who is here but is standing in the hall talking). Can't hear the video. So weird.

Our school did that this year also. Video from the super, video from the principal.

And of course, way too many people crammed into the APR.

Overcrowded schools makes it less and less of a 'personal' experience.

That video from last year was terrible.

Well that's disappointing.
They showed videos at our middle school, where parents where asked to go to their child's homeroom.

But in our elementary school, the Principal, assistant principal, counselor and reading specialist all talk, along with the PTA.

Our school usually has a video but everyone sees it in the classroom. So a video with principal, assistant, pta pitch, etc. then it gets turned off and teacher takes over. This is after all the non-teachers are in the gym for you to meet, talk to (specialists, music, art, band, pe, etc)

Cafegymatorium for the win!

With all the overcrowded schools, this is the norm. You can't fit all the parents in one place, so, the video (in my experience in the classroom in ES, in the homeroom in MS and HS).

LOL! I guess that's how it is at every overcrowded school in this era.

This is how it was at our school except that the specialists were in the gym BEFORE. Then we were all released to the classrooms where we watched a video (actually it was a prerecorded slideshow) with the principal. The teacher did her presentation after. I loved it all.

This. Gets more and more impersonal as the schools get more and more crowded.

What exactly did you love? The generic slideshow presentation that doesn't provide any useful information? Or the fact that you don't even get to meet the principal in person?

This is awful!! What a shame that a school does this. So glad that we have a personalized message and warm evening of meet and greet and getting to know the teachers and staff at Beverly Farms.

I love the video in the classroom instead of everyone being crammed in the hot gym. Our principal is around all the time so I'm perfectly happy not to have to see her in person with 500 or so other people.

Does anyone's ES have an auditorium these days? I remember that our ES had one and it was so cool to perform in band! But our ES does not have an auditorium. Everything is held in the cafeteria.
