What are your thoughts on the race, the candidates?
Will Dems be able to hold on to the seat? Why on earth is Delaney doing this insane long-sbot run for the presidency? |
|
As long as they don't redraw the boundaries and leave it like it is, it's a safe seat.
If they start monkeying around with it to cut out all the democrat strongholds in montgomery, it might be in jeopardy. This is why redistricting is so dangerous. It allows republicans to basically steal elections. |
Do you realize that "monkeying around" with boundaries is what gave the district all those democrat strongholds in Montgomery in the first place? Prior to that, 6D was all western MD. We couldn't make a dent in it until we could redraw it to extend it down into Germantown and Gaithersburg to include enough Democrat households to offset all the racists, nazis and kkk members in western Maryland. I mean, it's kind of funny really when you think about it. What do Montgomery and Garrett counties have in common? Zero. Except their member of congress, haha! But yeah, before it got redrawn, we had no hope of ever getting that seat. So redistricting is a GOOD thing. |
| To be fair, we (the Dems) did gerrymander that district in our favor but gerrymandering isn't fair (ever, but particularly) if only one side is permitted to do it. |
| I know there are people running but I can't keep any of them straight. I know the lady who just got Emily's List (forget her name) is like the only one who actually lives in the district. Everybody else is just Bethesda people who couldn't beat Raskin. |
Nonsense. Winning is what matters. |
And in the long game, it doesn't matter who they are, as long as one of them gets the seat and it doesn't go to the Rs. Because numbers are what matters, and Maryland shouldn't be responsible for costing the party a seat. We're a solid blue state, and we need to do anything we can do to keep it that way. Otherwise you'll have all the rednecks and racists from Frederick all the way to Deep Creek voting for some junior nazi. We MUST ensure that we keep or add more D votes in that district to keep them in check. They have to be disenfranchised, period. It's the only option |
That's incredibly important but I would like to note that there is not a single woman in Maryland's entire delegation and half of the state is female. That's not right. |
| What difference does it make? As long as they're a Dem, is all that matters. You think they won't serve their female constituency or something? Grow up. |
That's so incredibly misogynistic of you! Do you even realize what you sound like? |
It matters. Having diversity represented in your delegation matters. Having female representation in congress matter. Seeing women represented in all fields matters. Women matter. |
| You're right. Let's let some inept woman run, and then we can all watch a republican get elected. Great idea. |
| Democrats like you, make me ashamed to call myself a democrat. |
|
I think Dems will hold the seat. I don't think the candidates have fully shook out. I'd probably be happy with anyone except Trone.
I don't think it should have been gerrymandered and I wish we would get laws/court decisions precluding gerrymandering on a national basis. It's even possible that more fairly drawn districts would make the 1st and the 6th both competitive for Dems, at least for 2018. On the other hand, when you look at the worst gerrymandered states it's probably the top 4 were gerrymandered by R's and then there's MD so I can't say I think MD Dems should be ashamed of what they did. |
I don't understand why people who don't live in the District are allowed to run. |
