| Anyone have experience with the school? DS likes it and I would like to know more about it before we decide to visit it this fall. |
| School for rich kids. |
|
They take 1 class at a time.
My brother went there, he is off the charts smart, he lived it. |
| One of the best West LACs. Extremely selective (15% admit rate), unique academic style consisting of taking 1 class every four weeks, one of the few top LACs in an urban area. Does attract rich students- has the highest difference between % of rich students and poor students of any school in the country. Definitely rising in reputation |
| Have a good friend that went there and absolutely loved it. I met her through work and she was hands down one of the best colleagues I've ever had (since quit to start her own business which is increasingly successful). Based on how she turned out, wish I'd gone there. The one class at a time thing seems great for those who really like to focus on something. |
Are you the same dum-dum that says this about every SLAC? |
| Excellent school. I wish more colleges used the block system. |
NP- NYT research in the last year or so identified CC and WUSTL as having especially high numbers of 1%ers compared with the number of lower income students at the school. Not sure those differences are statistically significant when compared with a number of other SLACs, but they did come out especially high. |
My nephew was given a full ride--tuition, room & board, study abroad, travel allowance, etc. last year. In addition they had him participate in a three week program before school started for kids who were first in their families to attend college, or who had been admitted through the Bridge Scholars program. My loser brother and SIL haven't worked for YEARS, and my nephew is definitely not a rich kid. I took the tour with him--we live nearby and he was visiting with my mom--and was really impressed. Nice campus, close to downtown Colorado Springs. Newly renovated library and arts center, lots of alumni support, block program offers opportunities for great field trips, etc. We've met several alumni and staff over the years and all are interesting, good people. They just finished building more student housing, looks like it may be more apartment style rather than traditional dorms. If your student likes to ski, they have a weekend shuttle up to Breckenridge. It is definitely very liberal! |
Um, ok. The existence of your nephew doesn't negate the research and statistics that Colorado College is an extremely wealthy student body and not a socioeconomically diverse place. |
How is pointing out research/statistics being a dum-dum? |
| Urban? The Springs? |
Posting "school for rich kids" is not pointing out research/statistics. It's just being an a-hole. |
How is a city with a population of 450,000 and a college located within walking distance to its downtown not urban? |
Because if it's not the East Coast or Chicago it can't be urban, according to DCUM. |
