I'm 33.
I'm not 100% on how this s going to happen, but know won't be satisfied until at least try and get there. |
| Go for it. You are intending to be a doctor and practice, after med school? Or do you just want the media school experience? |
| you'll be almost 50 when you start making 'decent' money. |
Some people never do and they live full, meaningful, happy lives. Do what you want, OP. |
| If you start this year, you can do it--i know 2 women who have done this. However, I don't see how you could start this year since it's August already. But do it anyway. You'll be 41 when you finish--still young! |

Our pediatrician did this at that age.
Her spouse is well-known and wealthy, so I guess she was just looking for a challenge. Outside of circumstances like that, I'm not sure I can ever see the benefits out-weighing the costs. |
| Awesome, OP! You'll never know unless you try. Good for you for having the courage to chase your dreams. So many sit back and make excuses instead of trying. (See above...) |
| Hey OP, a good buddy of mine did this while in her thirties and a single parent. I can't even tell you how proud I am to know her. Go for it. |
| Do you have all the college prerequisites? My friend had to spend a year just taking those. |
|
I know how old I'll be when I likely finish, thanks for your concerns pps, but I'm capable of doing math.
I'm well aware of the cost. I've always wanted to be a doctor. I talked myself out of it after undergrad for many reasons. I've spent the last decade working, and trying to ignore the little voice n my head. Maybe I won't succeed, but at least I will have tried. |
| My friend's mom went to school to be a PA when I was in high school. She was older than 33. That was 25 years ago and she's still in practice and loves it. |
I need to take 1 more class. |
| Go for it. The profession needs all the help it can get. |
| Good friend of my family's made this decision in his late 30s, with two elementary-school-aged kids. It was a lot of work for him and his family, but they are all happy with the result. You can do it OP! |

My cousin did that at that age or a bit older in the 80s. She was a single mom and became an ob/gyn. She went on to be head of her practice and made great money. She is still head of a large Seattle area practice and also owns a winery. Follow your dreams and ignore the naysayers.
I know another guy who had a phd in the classics and decided to go to med school in his 30s. Now late 40s and working as a neurosurgeon and making great money but extremely long and taxing hours. |
