My kids are tweens and teens and can get breakfast themselves, but we usually don't have time for a sit-down breakfast. What are some ideas for five-minute breakfasts (and options for items that we can eat in the car)?
Thanks!! |
| Muffins are good for this. Love morning glory muffins, which seem healthy (we make some with apples, apple butter, carrots, etc). But we also make peanut butter/banana/choc chip, which are filling. |

Fruit, yogurt, granola parfait
Peanut butter or avocado toast Overnight oatmeal (or keep a big batch in the fridge). I like peanut butter and banana oatmeal personally |
| Spread some grated cheese (usually cheddar or jack) on a whole wheat tortilla. Microwave for 30 seconds and then roll up. I like the Whole Foods whole wheat tortillas. |
|
Shakes- frozen bananas peanut butter milk ice and ground flax. Protein powder maybe.
Egg sausage and pepper muffins Bran muffins with nut butter and jam Microwave an egg with cheese and put it on a while wheat English muffin with salsa Breakfast burritos Overnight oats, or just regular whole oats |

Add vegetarian refried beans, and your kid can have some protein too. |
|
hard boiled egg with a side of fruit.

We have one of those Hamilton Beach breakfast sandwich makers and use it often.
toast w/ pb |
Adding beans is good for fiber, too (although there is protein in the cheese and ww tortilla so the breakfast is fine as is, imo). |
|
cereal with milk and a banana
peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat toast scrambled egg quesadillas wholegrain toaster waffles microwaved sausage patty on toasted english muffin (my kids like cheese on this, too) |
| Microwaveable oatmeal. Can add PB, fruit, maple syrup, nuts, whatever. |
Do you like your sandwich maker? I'm sorely tempted, but my husband will complain it's just another one of my kitchen appliances taking up space in our small kitchen. |
| I make a bunch of bacin, egg and cheese breakfast burritos on Sunday nights. |

-stovetop oatmeal w/fruit & toast, microwaved breakfast sausage maybe
-cheesy scrambled eggs w/fruit & toast, microwaved breakfast sausage maybe -toasted bagels w/cream cheese & fruit -toaster waffles w/fruit & cottage cheese -blueberry muffins (the big ones from Safeway), with fruit & cottage cheese These are the five that I do each week but I mix them up a little bit so it isn't always the same thing on a Tuesday, for example. |
