| Does anyone know how many kids on Langley' varsity lax team received scholarship this year? |
| Are you talking about athletic scholarships or academic scholarships? If you are trying to find out who perhaps might have an athletic scholarship because the student is committed to play lax for that college then you can look at the names of the colleges for the departing seniors for the team. Those students going to a D1 school might have been offered an athletic scholarship to that school. Not all commits are offered athletic scholarships. |
| What is the end game for lacrosse? There are no pro teams so is it college play? |
Wrong. https://www.majorleaguelacrosse.com/ Though the players have day jobs as well since MLL players do not get paid much at all. A lot of LAX players go into finance. |
| Boys or girls squad? I'd be surprised is it was more than 1... |
It is not really pro if they are not getting paid and are just doing it evenings after their real jobs. It is just a competitive adult league. |
The end game for playing college lax is being the best you can be at your sport, embracing a team culture and exercising your competitive spirit. As others have pointed out, the players aren't in it for a lucrative lax sports career after college; they are in it because they love their sport and they want to keep playing in college. Thinking of our kids' lax teammates who have graduated, none of them play professionally although several of them play in amateur competitions. I think it is a different story for other sports. |
It likely was several more than that. |

A number of the kids playing for D1 schools likely received some athletic scholarship. But unlike 1-A football and Division 1 basketball scholarships are split in lacrosse. Likelihood of full scholarship is very small. They give you a piece and sign you into the school.
Rather than looking at athletic scholarship the greatest benefit of the sport is opportunity to go to really competitive colleges. I think you would be far more impressed by the increased likelihood of admission at great colleges than the financial benefit of the D1 players. Anyone looking at the financial analysis of paying for 10 years of club teams and travel expenses vs. college scholarship will probably figure out it's a losing proposition for almost everyone. Rather they should see it as an investment in an athletic well rounded candidate for admission to a college for which you get the opportunity to continue paying for the privilege. That's the long term view. Great education opportunities in all athletic divisions. First step is to get admitted and lacrosse helps. |
How about an investment in learning to work hard and push themselves? |
| LAX is a sport to play for fun and for the lifestyle, not an investment for sports scholarships or a sports career. They is no money in it for the players anyway. |

| The kids all learn to cover for each other's drug possession, which is a handy skill for a career in finance. |
