DP. I think the vaccine-autism debate is a red herring. I suspect the real reason for the huge rise in autism and other developmental disorders is the widespread use of fertility treatments, often in situations that are high risk to start with (AMA, family history, etc). I don't think there's a conspiracy theory surrounding the issue, but I think there's a big push to avoid saying it.

I agree and thought I was the only person who took note of this. Every autistic child I know had a mom who did some kind of fertility treatment.

Don't you think they're studying this already? My anecdotal evidence actually is the opposite of yours.

I don't know a single parent of a child with autism who had fertility treatments. I have two friends whose daughters have autism, both had the girls as newlyweds in their 20s. My friend with an autistic son actually had an oops pregnancy with a FWB - again, no treatments. My three or four friends who did fertility treatments all have neurotypical children.

PP said that they believe it part of the increase, not the sole reason.

Do you have any idea how much money fertility treatments generate? Like cigarettes this information is not going to be made widely available. How much money would be lost if people were confronted by the risks? And do you really think tampering with hormones doesn’t cause detrimental effects to our bodies - either the baby or the mothers? It’s not just about autism but also other special needs and cancers.

Pick up a history book. Didn't you ever wonder why people didn't realize what seems obvious to you, far in the future? Didn't you ever study an event in history and wonder at the inability of the ordinary person to realize the full extent of whatever was occurring? For a lot of reasons, it is in nobody's best interest to neutrally present all known information about a negative or controversial event that can't be changed. This is true for every culture and society.

Please give one example of a similar scenario to what you're talking about.

As someone who lives in Europe, bovine spongiform encephalopathy comes to mind. It was mishandled badly with information not released in a timely way or action taken early enough. The public certainly were not made aware of the progressing situation from its origin in anything like 'real time.' Or tuberculosis in the Victorian era. It was known that consumption was contagious and it was known how it was spread well before this information was made clear to the entire public. The reason is poor people lived close together and worked in miserable, crowded conditions in cities and there was no way to prevent spread among them. That portion of the population simply weren't important as individuals to the political and social elite, only as a mass workforce, so there was less incentive to act in a way that would best prevent some of them from becoming ill.

If this particular theory is true, that there’s a cancer cure and it’s being withheld, then the people listed are collateral damage. If someone wants there to be a narrative that cancer impacts everyone and there is no cure, then that includes people from all walks of life like John McCain.

It would be interesting to acquire some data on big pharma/top executive cause of death to see how many have died of cancer. By age, location, gender, decade in which they died - and then compare data to type of cancer, treatment efficacy for general population, etc.

+2 Same here, in late Feb/early March. It was a different headache/sinus pain, body ache, cough, and chest heaviness than I've ever felt from a cold or flu, plus a brain fogginess. It doesn't sound nutty at all to me to describe it as mystical -- it was a very, very strange, almost otherworldly feeling.

My husband has Covid right now and this is how he also describes it. Thankfully the kids and I were spared. He knew he was exposed and isolated. Thankfully we have a large home and he can do it here without being anywhere near us.

I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

Has anyone explored the possibility that autism is simply diagnosed more often than it was 30+ years ago? Not because its prevalence has actually risen but because we better understand how to diagnose it?

Sure, but there is also a reason that we have the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986. And it's not because zero harm is ever done by vaccines. It's because TOO MANY vaccine injuries were proven and the lobbyists successfully convinced congress to protect them from lawsuits so that the vaccine manufacturers didn't have to worry too much about being accountable for it.

Those dots don't connect.
1. Yes, vaccines can have adverse side effects, such as allergic reactions.
2. In the 80s there was a worry about vaccines causing brain damage (not autism). I believe the link was never proven, but the fear was big enough that vaccine manufacturers couldn't get liability insurance.
3. We still want people to get vaccinated, because on balance it's better for society, even if there is an occasional vaccine-related injury. So for that reason there was a need to protect vaccine manufacturers.

However, it is not accurate to suggest that the Vaccine Injury Act was created because of autism fears, or even that its creation implies that widespread vaccine injuries were ever proven.

I agree with your summary very much. I agree with 2/3-3/4 of what you listed but would be willing to discuss those I don’t think are true.
