USC and Columbia Protests

Yes, the US supports the underdog Israel. Last week, Iran, a country with eight times the population of Israel, sent a wave of drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, toward Israel. Fortunately, with US military assistance, Israel was able to shoot down 99% of the incoming explosives. and the only serious injury was to a 7-year old Bedouin girl. Would the people objecting to military assistance to Israel, preferred that there were instead massive casualties?

Actually, as a person who objects to military assistance to Israel, I would have preferred that Israel not have provoked the Iranian response by committing war crimes in destroying a foreign diplomatic facility, murdering diplomats, and then expecting people to just turn the page when they conjured up another Israeli lie about the occupants of the diplomatic facility.

Help with defensive military aid is ok. Sending weapons with our money to kill civilians is not ok.

That is nasty. It’s not the goal of the protestors though and it’s rare that students are that violent. Was it a student with a knife? Whoever it was will go to jail.

What do the protetstors want? For Columbia to stop the war? What morons. They deserve to go to jail for idiocy.

They want America to stop funding the attack on civilians in Gaza.

I remember Harvard protests in the 1980s over apartheid in South Africa. They built shanty towns in Harvard Yard and slept in them. They wanted Harvard to divest in South Africa until they ended apartheid. The students at Harvard and other colleges made a difference in the anti apartheid movement and Nelson Mandela was voted president. It wasn’t all because of the students but they did help.

Anti semitism should not include being able to stand up for Palestine/Gaza. I really feel strongly that Jews who keep putting down these protesters are in the wrong. It's not about whether the protesters are right but that they should be allowed to express their sentiments without being attacked publicly. People don't understand that universities have always been the battlefront of intense political dialogue - education is where ideas and thoughts are expressed and absorbed. Questioning and debate, considerations and strong sentiments are the way the young learn. To take away the rights of these kids is basically censorship.

The Jerusalem Post article said the Yale editor in chief who was poked in the eye was trying to shut down the protest, so it wasn’t some random poking of an innocent passerby. I als wonder if if happened in the chaos, instead of being deliberate.

The article also called all the kids anti-Israel, which I find troubling. The protesters aren’t a monolith. Just because you want a ceasefire doesn’t mean you don’t want Israel to exist. I also wonder why we don’t see anti-Palestine ever written because it sure seems like there are also a bunch of people who want to bomb Palestinians to infinity even if they start a regional war.

Did you just try and justify someone being stabbed in the eye?

I thought it was a knife but he was waving the flag in her face and jabbed her eye. They need to calm down.

Thanks TikTok for giving us teens and 20-something’s a steady diet of propaganda.

She says a protestor was waving a Palestinian flag in her face and jabbed her in the eye with it. She reported the incident to campus police, who told her there was nothing they could do.

Tik Tok is just the vehicle. This is a matter is a matter of national security and I really hope that the alphabet agencies have people embedded in these “movements.”

TikTok is a propaganda tool of China. I completely support the U.S. banning it.

Midnight deadline has passed at Columbia, and has been extended to 8am. Looks like there is a build up of NYPD at the campus.

Student organizers are reporting that they were threatened with a National Guard response by university officials. Which is pretty crazy if national guard moves in on a bunch of students who are by and large protesting peacefully.

Kathy Hochul said “I don’t think it’s necessary at this time, but if the NYPD calls and says they need help, we’re always there for them.”

They should be protesting Hamas. Not targeting Jewish students who have nothing to do with the government sending money to Israel.

Of course, that is going to end badly. Stupid move by USC too. And who has a graduation with no outside speakers? These high level administrators seem completely clueless and out of touch with their student bodies.

Those students need to get in class and obey their schools' leaders. If they don't like the rules, then go elsewhere.

Obey to Israel or else. The new motto of the free world.

The difference is that the protesters in the 80s weren’t regularly surrounded by white supremacists defending apartheid in SA. The pro-Palestinian demonstrators are regularly confronted by Jewish students waiving Israeli flags and defending the actions of a government that has butchered thousands of women and kids. When the universities then go out of their way to attack the protesters and align with the counter-protesters, tempers flare because it becomes very clear who has the greater money and power both domestically and abroad.

But those protests took place and here we are better off because of them.

Change of this magnitude is not achieved without making some people uncomfortable, if that’s the only price Jewish kids have to pay then they should consider themselves very lucky. There are 14000 children buried under concrete in Gaza who would have given anything to endure some minor discomfort.

Stupidly outrageous comment, you think students being chased out of lectures and having their mezuzahs torn down and having pro terrorist people yell in their faces ‘discomfort’?
Israelis were murdered in cold blood. And non Israelis too. How dare you.

Everyone has the ability to videotape. They need to videotape these threats and file police reports.

You’ve got a bit of racism in you calling the protestors who are all religions by the way “terrorists”.

People would have supported giving help to Israel but when they crossed the line into being the aggressor that’s when they lose support. Americans are not comfortable seeing pictures of starving children, children with limbs torn off from American bombs. How is America still giving them aid? The country is not being attacked, they are the attackers. And the extremists Jews are rushing to grab land and are attacking and killing Palestinians.

I never thought America would send bombs and weapons to a country attacking civilians. 34,000 killed. 14,000 children dead, children who are not part of Hamas and Israel knows it. And more deaths are in the near future from starvation. That’s a painful way to die.

America is sending the National Guard and Counterterrorism Police to ambush peaceful protest at a top university. A country eating its young.

For progressive students, Sinwar and Hamas are the same as Mandela and the ANC. They think what they are doing is the same as what a prior generation did when they protested apartheid. And they don't understand why people are appalled with their language and their signs and their absurd false equivalencies.
