Yeah, the speed is much faster. Langley and Madison both looked shocked and fell way behind quickly. Both seemed to adjust and settle in but way too late.

Embarrassing- the score will be embarrassing.

Those schools are better today for playing in those games last night and finding out how much harder the top tier of Virginia public school lacrosse needs to work to match up with the top tier of Maryland Public school lax. I give credit to the coaches for scheduling those games.

In all fairness, I watched on stream, BUT my observation:
The speed differential was not that great. Either Langley or Madison play as a whole team. Langley has no team defense, but does play a team offense most of the time. Madison plays team defense, but seems to be a collection of players on offense.

If you are not scoring via assts. and 5-10 yd shots, you will struggle against better teams. If you allow players to roam freely through you D and lose your man, you will get scored on at will. When players are even or just close athletically, the team will most always beat the human highlight reels.

2024 Predictions (Final 4)

4A:
Dominion - Coach L is one of the areas best. He will have the Titans primed to return to the promise land.
Kettle Run - With a great season in 2023, Lets see if Kettle Run can continue to rise.
Broad Run - They have talent in the right spots. A lack of seriousness in the program could hurt them. Depth also in question.
Loudoun Valley - Dominion and Valley have a very interesting rivalry. Can Valley's Faceoff Man keep them in games. Can they Vikings develop offensive threats in the midfield. Only time will tell.

5A:
Riverside - Just when people think they are "down", they go and win state titles. Whatever is in the water there, I want some. They are at a different level until proven otherwise.
Independence - A ridiculous amount of talent, maybe the best in the state, but can a new coach take this Indy team to the next level. Off-Season leagues show that the tigers may have what it takes to knock off the Rams.
Briar Woods - Not so fast Indy Lovers... Briar still seems to have Indy's number. They also have an absolute beast in the midfield. With a new coach as well, the battle for 2nd in 5A might be one to remember.
Mountain View - Heading down to Stafford with our 4th team... The Hokies of the north have something cooking. 15-1 last year, with a tough loss to Briar at the end of the season. Can they get themselves to over that Loudoun hump?

6A:
Madison - Much like in the 5A landscape, Warhawks are top dogs until beat. They have one of the best poles (IMO) in NOVA history. Coach Soloman is also probably the best coach in all of Virginia. Heavy prediction that Madison dismantles Riverside in the opener on there way to yet another state champy.
Langley - Sleeeeper team here in the 2 spot. They may have the most offensive talent they have had since Brewer. Can Coach Parrot win the big game? He will need to get the Saxons back on the map. Pressure on Georgetown Pike.
Robinson - Losing two close games in 2023 to the boys from Vienna has the Rams motivated for 2024. Need to summon the spirits of Rams past to remember that they are the program to beat.
Battlefield - Something about the Purple that brings fear to those who face them. They always play great defense, have a fantastic ball stopper between the pipes, and seem to always be there at the end.

Remember these are all opinion, not fact. They are also for fun. Love to hear your thoughts! Post away....

Would love to know your take after a few weeks here. I am assuming you are only speak of semi local teams and not Richmond/ Beach/ Roanoke areas
Mine:
4) Broad Run, Woodgrove, Valley and #4 has yet to reveal itself several team that can go either way.
5) Riverside, Briar, Indy and don’t think there is a #4- MV is now a 6 and in the Richmond region
6) Robo, Madison, Battlefield, Yorktown/McLean toss up for now

I watched both in person and the pace of play differential was very apparent. Not athletic speed difference but in transition. MD teams would clear the ball to midfield before VA teams hardly knew the MD teams had the ball. No ride even set up. On the other side, MD teams rode aggressively and crushed the more methodical VA clears. Agree with you that Langley's offense looked better. South River's goalie played great and stuffed a ton of shots on the doorstep. They need a lot of work on defense. As you noted, Madison was the reverse, defense is fine for VA (despite giving up 14 goals) but offense needs some coordination.

I agree with this. Broadneck and South River would easily go undefeated and win VA state championship in any class. The gap is much larger than I expected.

Sounds like south river did exactly what Robinson did to Langley

It won't be close, but I don't think it is embarrassing to lose to a better team. Broadneck is at least half Annapolis Hawks players, they have at least three D1 commits and some high level D3 commits and they are just a better team. I wouldn't expect Yorktown to win. If they can take something away from the game that helps them prepare for the VA playoffs then it is a worthwhile game for them.
