Rough night for the VA boys.
Severna Park 14 West Po 3 South River 14 Langley 7 Broadneck 14 Madison 5 |
Atlee 9 Cosby 7
Cosby looking like they are legit. |
Anne Arundel County just plays at a different level. |
Yeah, the speed is much faster. Langley and Madison both looked shocked and fell way behind quickly. Both seemed to adjust and settle in but way too late. |
Maryland lacrosse better than VA lacrosse ... No wayyyyyy ... Glad to see how our top dogs measure up though ...
Robinson beats Fauquier tonight by 15+. LB over Maret by 8+. St. Chris over SSSA by 1. Episcopal over FH by 5+. |
I Wonder what the Yorktown broadneck score will be |
Embarrassing- the score will be embarrassing. |
Those schools are better today for playing in those games last night and finding out how much harder the top tier of Virginia public school lacrosse needs to work to match up with the top tier of Maryland Public school lax. I give credit to the coaches for scheduling those games. |
In all fairness, I watched on stream, BUT my observation: The speed differential was not that great. Either Langley or Madison play as a whole team. Langley has no team defense, but does play a team offense most of the time. Madison plays team defense, but seems to be a collection of players on offense. If you are not scoring via assts. and 5-10 yd shots, you will struggle against better teams. If you allow players to roam freely through you D and lose your man, you will get scored on at will. When players are even or just close athletically, the team will most always beat the human highlight reels. |
Would love to know your take after a few weeks here. I am assuming you are only speak of semi local teams and not Richmond/ Beach/ Roanoke areas Mine: 4) Broad Run, Woodgrove, Valley and #4 has yet to reveal itself several team that can go either way. 5) Riverside, Briar, Indy and don’t think there is a #4- MV is now a 6 and in the Richmond region 6) Robo, Madison, Battlefield, Yorktown/McLean toss up for now |
Langley’s team offense is really working well lately |
I watched both in person and the pace of play differential was very apparent. Not athletic speed difference but in transition. MD teams would clear the ball to midfield before VA teams hardly knew the MD teams had the ball. No ride even set up. On the other side, MD teams rode aggressively and crushed the more methodical VA clears. Agree with you that Langley's offense looked better. South River's goalie played great and stuffed a ton of shots on the doorstep. They need a lot of work on defense. As you noted, Madison was the reverse, defense is fine for VA (despite giving up 14 goals) but offense needs some coordination. |
I agree with this. Broadneck and South River would easily go undefeated and win VA state championship in any class. The gap is much larger than I expected. |
Sounds like south river did exactly what Robinson did to Langley |
It won't be close, but I don't think it is embarrassing to lose to a better team. Broadneck is at least half Annapolis Hawks players, they have at least three D1 commits and some high level D3 commits and they are just a better team. I wouldn't expect Yorktown to win. If they can take something away from the game that helps them prepare for the VA playoffs then it is a worthwhile game for them. |
