The rankings app does a pretty good job of giving a rough determination of how good teams are independent of the league they play in.

Yeah I've found the rankings app to be surprisingly accurate for the most part. Top Drawer's monthly top 25 rankings by age group is good too. Not perfect, but pretty close and way more accurate than the predictions by anonymous people on a message board.

TDS is bit biased. They're not entireley independent, they are influenced by money slightly IMO.

Union 07s have some of the wealthiest families in all of DMV. If you think some of those players are getting scholarships instead of just a roster spot because mommy and daddy are making a "donations", you need to do some research. NVA's 07s are it's first strong group of of commits and just the beginning. NVA 08s and 09s will have better commits in both years coming. Those are two very weak year for Union. Sorry if truth hurts but you shouldn't act like such a pr1ck.

To your point, which I agree with, if your DC is playing in the Jeff Cup showcase weekend, for example, and coaches from a school that they’re interested in and have communicated that interest to are going to be there, they’re going to be able to see your player regardless of whether their team is playing in the top bracket, the bottom bracket or somewhere in between. Yes, the brackets are often spread out among different fields so that may require some traveling, but the point is, if a college coach is interested in you, they’re not going to say “oh no, your team isn’t in a high enough bracket so I’m not going to bother watching you play.” That’s not simply my opinion but rather my experience.

You have some good points. I agree that most parents care about winning instead of their kid's development. However, how does the college recruiter know which kid is good on what team? At Jeff Cup, there are a lot of teams playing. Most likely, the D1 scout will be looking at the top 2 or 3 divisions to spot which player they like. that alone is like 15-20 games for the weekend. I doubt they will be sitting and watching RL games at a lower bracket.

Scouts usually aren't just watching games blindly.


Don't the ECNL players do that, too? What makes you think the the scout will prefer watching ECNL players vs RL players?

Players and Parents contact College Coaches and hype their kid + GPA. If the coach likes what they see and needs a player in that role they'll check them out at a game.

For YNT scouts usually the DOCs at clubs give them recommendations. Sometimes they check out the player sometimes they just take the DOCs word and see how they do in an ID Camp.
