Which elementary in Oakton?

I am looking at houses in Oakton and would like to hear your opinion of Oakton Elementary, Mosby Woods, or Waples Mill for a child with ADHD who requires a one on one aide for behavioral support but is otherwise on or above grade level academically.

You will not get a one on one aide for a child with ADHD in Fairfax County Public Schools. The only students I see with a one on one aide have multiple severe disabilities that include ID.

I'm the OP. So, what do kids who attend FCPS schools do? Does anyone attend a school in Oakton that has paraprofessionals who help your student stay on task in the classroom? If not, is your child mainstreamed or is there a separate classroom? I'm trying to figure out what support system is in place for kids with ADHD and SPD related behavioral issues; particularly in the schools listed above. Is it true that none of FCPS provides one on one paras for kids with behavioral issues? Do they make any accommodations?

There is usually one aide for every special ed teacher. One special ed teacher for every 8 children (max) who have IEPs. One or the other (usually the aide) is in the gen ed classroom when their assigned students are in the classroom. SPD is not a recognized issue. Behavioral issues are supported by the gen ed teachers, the special ed teachers and the aides in accordance to the students' IEPs and 504s.

Accommodations are based on each student's IEP/504.

What kind of behavioral issues does your child have? It will be easier to say what accommodations have been made for similar students with more information.

There are posters in the Oakton area, but since it is high summer, it make take a while for them to respond if they are away on vacation.

You might want to live near a school which has the behavioral program if you think they would qualify.

Intensive Alternative Behavior Support (IABS) services are additional service supports provided through Behavior Intervention Services and consists of one Behavior Intervention Specialist, 19 Intensive Alternative Behavior Support (IABS) Instructional Assistants and 8 Intensive Alternative Behavior Support (IABS) Teachers. Eight elementary schools and three secondary public day schools that provide comprehensive services for students with emotional disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (high functioning autism) receive IABS support. Schools receiving support include:

Armstrong Elementary School

Eagle View Elementary School

Hollin Meadows Elementary School

Laurel Ridge Elementary School

Marshall Road Elementary School

Olde Creek Elementary School

Saratoga Elementary School

Woodlawn Elementary School

Burke School

Cedar Lane School

Quander Road School

PP here - I think so because I had a hard time finding the above list. I kept searching for emotional disability and nothing came up.
