I'm the OP. So, what do kids who attend FCPS schools do? Does anyone attend a school in Oakton that has paraprofessionals who help your student stay on task in the classroom? If not, is your child mainstreamed or is there a separate classroom? I'm trying to figure out what support system is in place for kids with ADHD and SPD related behavioral issues; particularly in the schools listed above. Is it true that none of FCPS provides one on one paras for kids with behavioral issues? Do they make any accommodations?
There is usually one aide for every special ed teacher. One special ed teacher for every 8 children (max) who have IEPs. One or the other (usually the aide) is in the gen ed classroom when their assigned students are in the classroom. SPD is not a recognized issue. Behavioral issues are supported by the gen ed teachers, the special ed teachers and the aides in accordance to the students' IEPs and 504s. Accommodations are based on each student's IEP/504. What kind of behavioral issues does your child have? It will be easier to say what accommodations have been made for similar students with more information. There are posters in the Oakton area, but since it is high summer, it make take a while for them to respond if they are away on vacation.
