How tall is THAT tall for a 14yo girl?

She's 5'8/9 and still wishes she were taller (has friends that are 6')

Ha! My DD is the same age and 5'7 and also wishes she were taller! I'm glad to know she's not the only girl on the tall spectrum who wishes she were taller. They'll be happier when they most likely grow a couple more inches

I was 5'10 in 7th grade and am 6' as an adult. I was very self-conscious (even though I played basketball!) of my height until college when I was roomed with a volleyball player freshman year and became an "honorary" player because I was tall! They all rocked heels and loved their height so I did too.

My DD is 16 and short 5'6" compared to your girls. She wishes she was at least 5'8". Tall is the new look and I like it. I grew up feeling like the shortest teen girl in former Yugoslavia, at 5'4". Many girls were 6'. Here, people mock me in my predominantly Jewish neighborhood if I even mention my height or how DD wishes she was taller, so I don't. Your DD will grow some more most likely. Perception is everything. If boys are growing taller and taller, it only makes sense that girls are too.

DD plays basketball! She's an SF, which I assume makes her wish she were taller

That is tall.
I am short. When I was a teen, I hated being short. But as an adult, I really do not care. My 8yo DD is tall for her age, but we will see. 'Que Sera, Sera'.

I am short too. I am 4'11" as an adult and was 4'8"/4'9" when I started high school at 14. I absolutely hate it! People call me "cute" and "sweet" instead of "hot" or "beautiful." I am 27, not 7! People used to pat me on the head until I told them to stop. I am an HS teacher and constantly get mistaken for a student despite wearing a faculty ID card and business casual clothes. Buying clothes is a royal pain, because I have to get everything tailored or it will fit perfectly in one area, but not well at all in another. I have to climb on shelves in the grocery store to reach items. If I gain 3 pounds, it looks more like 15 pounds. I would give anything to even be average height (~5'4").

Man, that must be tough. I had a friend in HS who was 4'11 and always wished she was shorter so she could weave between crowds even more easily

Per the most recent growth charts for the US, about 5% of US 14-year-old girls are 5 ft 7.5 inches or taller. About 3% are 5ft 8 inches or greater.

Often a child's perception of peer group is driven by whether they are involve din sports, or which sports. Some sports like gymnastics favor shorter girls, wheres volleyball favors taller. So if she hangs out with a group of taller girl athletes, she's likely to feel like she isn't as tall as she really is, compared to all girls across the country.

+1 I was a gymnast that ended up at 5'6" and wished I was shorter. My cousin who is the same height and played basketball wished she could grow a few inches.

To make you feel better. When all things are being equal, shorter people tend to have less heart problems.
