Best Elem. Schools near FFX and Burke

Looking to move to that area with our almost-elementary school kids, sort of between Vienna Metro and the VRE. Unfamiliar with the area, and are unsure which of the schools are best in the area or if they're all on par with one another. We know that FFX county in general has good schools but don't know any folks with kids in that age range to ask.

Elementary school is the level at which, despite the Great Schools ratings being different, I wouldn't stress too much. Everything in that area is good to great. Some "rate" lower, but it is driven largely by pockets of FARMS families. You will actually get lower class sizes at the Title I schools. Focus more on the long term and which middle/high school you'd be zoned for.

A. This isn't true, there are townhouses in the boundary.

B. Who cares?

So ignorant and gross.

Sorry, OP here, unfamiliar with FARMS acronym?

Also, DH thinks we'll probably move before the kids reach high school level so we're not that interested in those zones at this time. What middle schools, then, should we be aiming for?

Also, how do advanced programs work in this area? DH and I were both placed in advanced programs from a young age. Not necessarily expecting that to be our kids, but there is a high likelihood they will be. Where I grew up, only certain schools had advanced programs and we had to catch special buses to those schools. It made it harder for my parents to arrange for after school care, etc. Just wanting to be aware of how it worked?

Is this an inaccurate statement?

Talking about high school pyramids is an easy shorthand for an area. Look for elementary schools that feed into these high schools, not those high schools. It doesn't mean that your first grader will go to that high school, but it's an easy way to focus on some areas and not others.

In elementary school, advanced placement is only at certain schools and students are bussed there. They are called center schools, and they have both general education classes and AAP classes. Other schools only have general education classes, and some have what are called local level IV classes. There are pros and cons, and strong opinions, about all of these.
