| Last year was our first year in a testing grade. Do we get individual scores? If so, when? |
Your school should provide them to you at the beginning of the year or shortly thereafter. |
| Last year the individual sores were distributed to families in October. |
| Can parents and/or teachers see how the students did on individual questions? It seems to me that would be more useful than just getting a generic score without specifics on how they did on individual topics or taking into account questions that were left blank because they ran out of time, etc. |
You don't get individual questions / answers, but you do get a report that breaks your child's overall score into sections, and shows you how your child did on each. So, for example, if they were weak in sentence construction but strong in reading, you would know that. Here's a sample report from OSSE https://osse.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/osse/publication/attachments/2016%20Guide%20to%20Understanding%20PARCC%20Score%20Reports.pdf |
There is some breakdown within the subject areas, but no, you cannot see how they did in individual questions. |
Okay so returning teachers in testing grades were rated on effectivenes based on PARCC, if scores don't come out until then there is going to be a whole lot of teacher upheaval in October. Some won't want to come back, some will be required to leave if it is their second year with ineffective scores. How is this going to work? |
DCPS gets the scores during the summer so they have time to come up with a way to make the data look positive and fire teachers. While this does create a lot of open positions very close to the start of school, they know who to fire way before October. -DCPS teacher who can appreciate data-driven instruction if it's done right, the assessment is good, and it's not used for evaluations |
I would imagine there is a lag. They are't going to let people go in Oct. But probably after this school year. |
Did you read about last year PARCC scores at Wilson, even DCPS admitted the students did not take the assessments seriously, but yet these are the scores that are used to rate DCPS teachers. No consequences for students, but be damned for teachers! Oh well, just more churning of teachers, principals, and admin at DCPS high schools! |

PARCC scores are in now, and our final evaluation results are available to principals only. They'll be released to teachers by this Friday. Public release by OSSE? I'm not sure. |
