| Boil with a little oil added until very soft, like a mush. Add salt, pepper, drizzle of olive oil or ghee on top, sprinkle lemon. Try that to start. Need to put enough salt. The oil in the water helps to soften the lentils. You could also boil with a bay leaf but why not try simple first. |

Make tadka dal, Indian style. Serve with hot rice and ghee or naan. Yum.

It will cook to a yellow color.
One cup dal boiled with three cups of water, 1/4 tsp turmeric and salt to taste. Once it is cooked (soft and mushy) shallow fry 1/4 tsp cumin, 4 tb sp finely chopped onions in ghee. When onions start to crisp, pour the ghee, onion, cumin mixture over the dal and cover for sometime. |
