People like George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon are set for life due to their early life success in Hollywood. They are millionaires and do not need to work a day in their life.J.K Rowling does NOT need to write another book. Yet they do. They keep active and keep working and keep making work while making more money.
Are those of us in our cubes who want to quit our jobs just lazy and unmotivated? |
Those of us in our cubes probably lack the incentive milllions & millions & millions of dollars of a paycheck gives. |
| Because they like the stimulation/enrichment/whatever from working and can pick and choose the projects on which they want to work? |
| Maybe they actually like doing what they do unlike many people confined to cubicles. |
|
Because they like what they do. Or they love the attention. Or they love the money. Or they feel like they are still learning and growing in their art. Or they would otherwise be bored. Or they have no other real passions. Or they can't think of something else to do with their time.
Op, use your imagination |
They like their jobs. Lots of people feel this way, not just movie stars. I don't have to work financially, but continue to do so for lots of reasons other than the money. |
|
Ego
sense of achievement need to maintain huge bank balances against huge spending |
| They want to stay relevant and famous so they get invited to the best parties. Its much less fun to be a billionaire that no one cares about. |
| It's because she wants more, man. She's gotta feed the monkey, I mean, uh hasn't that ever occurred to you, man? |
| Like others said, because they love what they do. I once read a snippet written by a self-made millionaire/billionaire (I forget who) that basically said, if you're working just to become a millionaire (by which he didn't just mean having a million in assets, he was referring to true wealth), you're never going to get there because you'll lose your drive/motivation once you feel just comfortable. To become a true millionaire, you need to be driven by your passion for whatever is making you a millionaire, and when you are so driven, you'll keep going well past the "millionaire" point. |
|
You have heard the stat that 50% of people live paycheck to paycheck regardless of income applies here too
Yeah its hard to believe but many celebs are spending multiple millions on just real estate alone per year so yeah some of them actually need to keep working |
|
Why did MC Hammer keep working? Burt Reynolds? Kim Basinger? Larry King? Wayne Newton? 50 Cent?
Sh*t happens, OP. Sometimes millions isn't enough to feed the lifestyle and people go bankrupt. |
| You have no concept of loving what you do, do you? Do you have a hobby? What if you got to do your hobby full time, and got paid tons for it, and got to do it surrounded by people equally passionate and equally talented at it? That's why. |
This. Many of these celebrities have multiple homes and expensive hobbies and tastes. And they probably don't want to give that up. Also, they have high expenses - such as their agent, accountant, security, clothing, taxes. Of course some celebrities do just walk away - like Gene Hackman, Greta Garbo. |
Off topic, but I didn't realize Gene Hackman had retired from acting and was now writing. I thought you'd gotten the name wrong since Gene Wilder did something similar. I can think of quite a few big names who stepped away from acting (e.g., Doris Day). |
