Why do people in the Entertainment business keep working?

What else are they going to do with themselves? It's not like they have been grinding in the rat race and been in a cubicle farm for years dealing with corporate b.s. and just need a vacation/retirement to travel and live well.

I wonder about this. I mean some celebs are trying to sell crap you would see on tv shows. Paltrow selling power bracelets. Isn't there any class?

Yeah. I'm confused about Paltrow. She was born into a fabulously wealthy family, attained fame and wealth on her own as an actress and instead of retiring she is now running a company promoting wellness. Why? Sure its not money.

I am going to guess b/c they really enjoy it. I went to an NKOTB concert last month. I wondered why Donny would want to go on the road with a 'boy band" or are they now a 'man band", now that he is a serious actor?

At the show you could tell that he was just having a great time. It was clear that he really enjoyed being on stage and in the crowd. I am sure the money is great too but I am sure there is nothing like a throng of adoring fans.

My friend and I were just talking about Daniel Radcliffe. We were noting that he is clearly quite wealthy from the Harry Potter franchise but he keeps working. The thing is he takes on these crazy off beat roles. Having all that money allows him to take smaller quirky roles which he clearly loves. I don't think What If or Swiss Army Man were big money makers so he must have made those movies b/c he enjoyed them.

This. Many of these celebrities have multiple homes and expensive hobbies and tastes. And they probably don't want to give that up. Also, they have high expenses - such as their agent, accountant, security, clothing, taxes.

Of course some celebrities do just walk away - like Gene Hackman, Greta Garbo.

Off topic, but I didn't realize Gene Hackman had retired from acting and was now writing. I thought you'd gotten the name wrong since Gene Wilder did something similar. I can think of quite a few big names who stepped away from acting (e.g., Doris Day).

i didn't realize Hackman was writing now. He's one of my favorite actors and it always makes me a little sad when i remember hes retired from acting...but good for him. I don't know that he ever liked Hollywood but he probably liked acting.

They don't have to work the 9 to 5 grind. They have the money to work only when they want to. They are also celebrities and they like the perks of fame more than the downfall of fame.

Julia Roberts does it right. Just sits it out, enjoys her million, raises her kids but still gets involved in a fun project every couple of years.

She is also an exception. When asked recently about the "gender gap" in movie stars pay, she said she didn't notice there was one. Haha. Because she was top billing and top pay from a very young age and never needed to worry about it. Not many actresses can say that.

The right wellness brand can be worth a billion dollars, see: Jessica Alba. Even Clooney just made a boatload off his rum or some liquor.
