Pull-Ups for DS going to sleep away camp?

DS is going to sleep away camp for the first time. He is 13 but more like 9-10 developmentally and in terms of his size. It is an integrated camp, and his bunk will be all kids with SN. Currently, we take DS to pee each night at 11, and then he is able to go all night dry. But if we don't take him, he will almost certainly pee in the bed. We have talked to DS about wearing some kind of pull-ups at night while he is there, and he is amenable. Does anyone have recommendations of what brand of pull ups we can get? I have no experience with this and want to get a few kinds to make sure that they really work prior to sending him away a week from now. Thank you for any recommendations or suggestions.

Surely this is the kind of situation the camp staff can be alerted to and will be able to accommodate. Waking him up and taking him to the bathroom at 11 is a minor accommodation at a special needs camp.

Yes, they are called GOODNITES, and they are not noticeable and no one will know he has them on. my DS wore them and went to sleepovers, and no one ever find out.

I've seen ones that look like underwear in the store. They may be the Goodnites one that pp was referring to. This was at a supermarket, so they shouldn't be that hard to find.

no problem, do you have ziploc bags? if he doesn't want anyone to know about it when he wakes up he can put in the bag, and when his alone he can throw them in the trash. You might need to teach him yet but, once he got he willl know what to do.

--He could be ostracized and called names.

Find a camp who will protect your kid from humiliation. In the meantime, train your kid to work on independently peeing b/f bed and use a night gime alarm so he can train himself not to wet the bed.

Don't canncel no one will know and its not like his the only one. I bet there a lot of other boys that have the same problem. If its a coed camp they would be a lot of boys and girls that wet the bed. at least no one will noticed him since he will wear the goodnites

If a camp won't ensure that he pees b/f bed, then they won't ensure he wears goodnights.

More than likely, he's going to piss all over himself and stink to high heaven in warm, humid weather.

I don't know where you went to camp, but I'm not aware of any sleep away camps at which 11 pm is "before bed." The camp would need to wake him up. So it is not an issue of whether this boy can take himself to the bathroom "before bed" if he needs to go at 11 to stay dry.

Unfortunately, I have some experience with urinary bladder control issues due to my MS. OP, it isn't going to "stink" if your son need to use his goodnights. It'll be fine.

bedwetting is way more common that you think. My DS wore when he was 11, and my step daughter wears them and she is 13 years old. She has problems with ther bladder but she know she has to wear them.

And it's a camp for kids with special needs. My DS, almighty st 10, finally stopped wetting the bed at age 8, but there is no way he would tease someone about it.

Special needs kids can be really accepting and kind, more so than NT kids, in certain situations.

OP, it might be worth asking the camp how they will handle it if the pull up leaks. They should have a way to help your DS change his bedding and make sure everything gets laundered.
