Do You Allow Your Dog on the Bed?

Anonymous
Just curious. The hair bothers me and makes my nose run. DH thinks I am insane because I prefer the dog to sleep on the dogbed, not my bed. Do you care if your bed is covered in hair?

If the hair bothers you and makes your nose run, your DH should respect that. Dog needs to sleep in his own bed. (Or perhaps DH would like to share the couch with the dog?)

I tried letting my dog sleep in the bed a couple of times (if he had been groomed that day so he smelled nice and was clean) but he moved around too much. Kept me up most of the night.

Well as someone who is right now lying in bed with a golden retriever taking up half the bed (he is horizontal across it so both DH and I have to tuck our legs around him), it's pretty clear where I stand on the issue.

We have cream colored bedding, though, so our accommodation is that we have a golden colored blanket that we spread on the bed every night before our dog jumps up. He actually waits for us to spread it, and on the occasional night that we don't (the night in the month that he gets his flea and tick med) he knows he isn't welcome in the bed. This blanket was fairly cheap at BB&B, and it's totally washable, whereas the bedding isn't, and this way it cuts down on hair, dirt, etc on the bedding. Or maybe because it's golden colored, I just don't see the hair

Anyway, this could be a compromise to try? I can't imagine what I would do if DH suddenly decided no dog in the bed. Since I go to the bed usually an hour or more before he does, I would be bereft going to bed alone and not with my legs tucked under 75lbs of warm fur!

I used to want my dog everywhere i was, including the bed. Now I need time to myself at the end of the day (single mom) and my sleep is precious, so no, the dog is not allowed on my bed. (He's a new dog, so not a cut in benefits or rank or anything like that for the dog.)

Every night. She'll keep us up if she's not on the bed by constantly trying to jump up. She's a small dog and doesn't take up much space. Sometimes, it's me, my husband, our 2 yr. old and her, in the bed. Then it's a tight squeeze.

We have a beagle and he follows me around everywhere, so the answer is yes, he is allowed on the bed.

We used to until I got tired of having to wash our bedspread/duvet weekly b/c the blanket we put up there for her would get smooshed into a ball. She's on the floor now on her blanket next to the bed and has survived the indignity and I do less laundry!

We do. She was mine before we got married, and just having DH meant she now sleeps at the foot of the bed instead of on her own pillow! However, now that first DC is on his/her way, we have decided we'll have to start adjusting her to sleeping on the floor.

You will sleep SO much better with the dog off the bed! Mom needs to sleep better....When Mom's happy, everyone is happy!

Yes, our German Shepherd sleeps on the bed for the first hour or so of going to bed. Once assured that we are ok, he jumps off the bed and sleeps on the floor next to us. What can I say? That's what we get for having a herding dog

Am I allowed to say I hate cat people here?

It was over a year before we let the dog in the bed. DH was out of the country at the time, and I wound up having the kids and the tiny dog in the bed. The dog sleeps at the head of the bed, behind my pillow.

We have an 80lb collie. DH had her before we were married. I have to say it drove me crazy she would just jump up without an invitation. I had to put a stop to it. Now, if she jumps up on the bed she is invited that usually happens by DH and I am not home.

I cannot stand all the hair. My eyes itch and my nose gets all stuffy. It took a while for DH to understand this. But finally after five years I think I made my point.
