Water bottle for camp

Anonymous
My DS likes water bottles that keep his water super cold all day Luke the S'well ones, but we need one he can wear (not lose) for camp. Also don't want to to spend too much as we will likely go through several this summer! Any recommendations that worked for your child?

I do not understand this. How on earth are kids losing so many water bottles?

When I was around five, my parents got my brother and I a water bottle from Hermans Sporting Goods. With a Sharpie my initials were written on mine and my brother's initials were written on his. I had this water bottle (and ONLY this water bottle) until I went to college and tentatively suggested, "Maybe I could get a new one that fully closes?"

When I bought my daughter her THIRD water bottle in elementary school, I told her that she needed to keep better track of her things and I would never buy her any more. She now buys herself one or two a year. Where the hell do they all go, and how come kids nowadays are not capable of keeping track of their things?

(Lest you think I'm implying I was perfect, I lost my keys a lot.)

Go to target and have him pick one out. I wouldn't go too expensive because yeah they got lost. He'll be okay if it's not super cold all day.

Buy one nice one. If he loses it then he will get a frozen bottle of water each day. That will stay cool most of the day too.

This one! Best water bottle ever. Better than the s'well. Put it in the fridge open and empty to pre-cool it. Fill with ice and then water in the morning. It is AMAZING!!

Get a label with his name one it.

I like the Thermos brand ones you can buy at Target or on Amazon. They really do keep drinks cold for a long time. I want to say they are around $15

I like those until they changed the top part for the bigger size (16 oz?) from a straw to an open spout. Our old straw one would occasionally leak and I can only imagine the mess from the "open" pour style.
Searched amazon and found this one: https://www.amazon.com/flow-Stainless-Bottle-Double-Insulated/dp/B01GCO7AGY
Comes with several types of lids, including a carabiner one. We use the flip straw top and no leaks.

As for losing things, we use Oliver's labels for some things and Sharpie Extreme for others.

We have had ONE day of camp. ONE.

Kid has already lost his water bottle.

Go to the lost and found.

There are heaps and heaps and heaps there. And strangely, parents or kids never take them back or want them even though it has their names. From being a school volunteer, I have a few times cringed when we had to dump $25 water bottles in the trash because it had water or drinks in them and it wouldn't make it to the thrift store donation.
