Buy buy Baby, Babie r' Us or any other?
Thanks. |

I would highly recommend BBB if it's convenient for you. They have plenty of subject matter experts who can help you with all of your needs. I've been in BRU a few times since registering with BBB and BRU pales in comparison. You can never find someone to help you!
Baby Bargains also reports that you would be lucky to find a person to check you out, much less give advice on a car seat at BRU. They got an overall rating of a B. BBB got an A. Baby Bargains again reports that BBB's service is their strong point and they know their stuff. |

Thanks PP. I visited all 3 stores in this past weekend and I agree that Babies r' Us is awful. I liked BBB and GB a lot - in fact, I returned to GB yesterday to purchase the carseat they helped us choose on Saturda (they even took them to our car in the parking lot to try it out and see if it would fit!). Yesterday while I was there buying the carseat they were also great helping figuring out strollers (not buying that for now though).
But in terms of registring on line and having people look at it, prices, number of brands available, which one do you prefer? |

I am so frustrated because I've been reading and doing a lot of research and have a good sense of what I want - and trust me, none of it is all that exotic...and I am trying to do this online (and without having to go into a mega store which I think will make me break into hives) and they have probably half of what I'm looking for. This is BRU.
It's driving me nuts. Did anyone find a great online option that had the stuff they wanted??? |
Amazon |
I am registered at BuyBuyBaby and they do not have all the stuff I want so I do not recommend BuyBuyBaby as a place that has everything. |
| omg poster who suggested amazon - I LOVE YOU. thank you, seriously you made my night (I am both incredibly easily amused and just finished two hours of fruitless seraching on bru) |
|
It depends on what you decide you really want. The majority of the items I wanted were at BBB. The only main item that wasn't was the monitor. This is with regards to the registry.
We did buy the changing table and glider/ottoman at BRU on our own. They just had a better selection and the glider/ottoman happened to be 20% off when we walked in the store that day. I did notice that BRU did seem to have cuter clothes too. Baby Bargains gave BRU an A for their registry. No grade for BBB but it was noted that this was their biggest downfall. |
| I used Amazon, but made it a wish list, not a baby registry. They have this universal wish list now, meaning you can add things Amazon doesn't sell to it. So, for example, I have a few Ikea items on my Amazon wish list. |
| May I suggest no registry? Do you really need one? Usually a few good friends or relatives get the bigger items, you and partner buy the really big items and the rest is just fun stuff. I would prefer to pick a swaddling blanket rather than go to any of these places and buy the suggested boring staples...just a suggestion that you let people be a little more creative with their gifts. You'll get all the basics regardless. |
| I used Amazon and really liked it. Fun fact - it emails you the next day after someone buys something to let you know, and there is a great 'thank you' list it creates with the mailing addresses of the people who buy the stuff and what they bought you. Very useful, though it kills a little of the surprise. But I REALLY liked a) not shopping in the store b) not being beholden to the brands/things BBB or some other store had c) the fact that shipping is free for a lot of stuff d) long distance people can easily order things. Depending on who is actually selling the item, returns could be a little more tricky, but I didn't have a problem with this. Also, I actually returned a thing or two at BBB for store credit, which I know I could use for things I didn't get! |
| Also, for the 21:50 poster.....I kind of wish people didn't do this and followed the registry more. What ended up happening was that all of the 'fun' stuff (clothes, blankets etc.) was bought by other people, and I then had more than enought and am now left not being able to buy clothes etc. for my new, first baby because it would be way overkill. I know that it's almost a false complaint, but I'd much rather have gotten the practical stuff from other people over the blankets and so much clothing/so many onesies. |
| Another on-line resource that might have soe styles that have been discontinued is babyuniverse.com. I found that, with some things, after I did all the research and wanted X thing, it wasn't in the stores anymore. They have totally current stuff, too and the shipping is prompt. They were my go to source for buying the umpteenth car seat or booster once #2 came along. |
Oh, I dread the "creative" gifts. As often as not, they're things you neither need nor want. Or you get three bottle warmers because no one knows you already received one. We live in a small space and I don't have the room for a lot of stuff I can't use. As much as anything, my registry - and I'm the poster who created an Amazon wish list - was/is my shopping list. Clothes, blankets, really basic things I didn't bother to add because I don't care that much what people buy, and family/friends are going to buy you that stuff whether you register for it or not. But if I was recommended a specific brand of monitor, I'd add that so I could remember. Or specific toys I really think he's enjoy. Or this high chair as opposed to that one because it's a space saver model... |

We just did Target - nationwide chain, online convenience, coupons sent to you post baby, and selection was decent for us (we're not very picky).
In the grand scheme of things, it really is a minor detail. Just do what is most convenient for you. |
