Thank you gift ideas for realtor

Anonymous
We are about to close on our house and our realtor has worked very hard to push the sale through under difficult circumstances. We want to send her a thank you gift. Would a fruit basket or gift card be appropriate? Any other ideas? TIA.

Very nice of you! How about a gift certificate to a restaurant in her area?

We gave our realtor a gas gift card. We figured with all of the driving around he does that he could defintely use it.

congrats on the new house!

a gift certificate for a massage. It's a stressful job!

Oh wow, is it common to give a realtor a gift? I had no idea. We are buying a house for the first time, so I'm new to this.

If anything I think it's more common for a realtor to give you a gift-- after all they are the ones earning five figures on the sale. That said, I know people who developed genuine friendships with their realtor. I wouldn't tell someone not to give a gift, but I don't think anyone should feel as though it is expected.

My thoughts exactly. With the commission they get from the sale I wouldn't feel bad if you didn't get them a gift.

In fact, it was just the opposite with us. Our realtor purchased the home warranty for us as a thank you for choosing him and for doing business with him and his company.

I'd rather receive homemade brownies than anything by edible arrangements. The thought of someone paying so much money for a fruit plate really bothers me.

I tend to think that 3% is plenty, but if you really want to make the gesture, a nice orchid makes a lovely gift.

I have bought and sold real property several times, and always, received gifts from the realtor rather than vice versa. They make a huge amount of money for very little work. I don't think you need to thank them.

The best gift you can give your realtor is a recommendation to others or act as reference or write a letter of thanks potentially for website.

OP here. I am not trying to advertise anything, this is a genuine post. Our realtor has made some concessions (waiving fees, covering certain costs), and has put in a lot of work on this transaction. She is basically doing the work of the buyer's agent as well (long story). So we wanted to send an extra thank you. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Do you give everyone you do business with and pay for their service a gift? I find this bizarre. 3% aint no small shakes and don't think they don't know it! Real estate agents are business people (and very greedy ones at that). I think that just because you are not physically writing a check from your bank account to your agnet you seem to have forgotten how much you are paying them. A LOT OF MONEY. The greatest gift you can give an agent is a referral.
