| What are the keys to making perfect, fluffy white rice? My rice always seems to be slimy or al dente.... |
| Rinse it several times before you cook it. That takes care of the slimy. Once it boils and you put the lid on, leave it alone. Do not open to stir it. When the time is up, take it off the heat and keep the lid on for another 10-15 minutes. That takes care of the al dente. |
| Rice cooker(-: |
|
rinse well.
put into pan and slightly toast with oil. add liquid and bring to a quick boil. cover and turn heat down to lowest setting for 15 minutes. turn off heat, do not remove lid for 5-10 minutes. remove lid and fluff. |
| Rice cooker. I didn't like rice. Then DH got a rice cooker. LOVE IT NOW. |

Want to make this recipe:
http://thegreekvegan.com/spanakorizo-spinach-and-rice/ I've tried it before and the rice was dense and heavy. She calls for medium grain (I used long). Think that would make a difference? |
|
Here is my recipe that gets me perfect rice every single time.
1. Pour boiling water over rice. Let stand for 5 min. 2 wash with cold tap water till it runs almost clear. 3 in meantime, bring water (double the amount of rice) to a boil. 4 pour rice into boiling water 5 bring again to boil 6 cover and lower heat to minimum 7 cook for 18-20 min (depending on pot and heat) 8 uncover, fluff and leave uncovered to cool |
Is that because it's easier to make now or tastes that much better? |
| Basmati rice. |
|
Rinse it way way more than you think you should.
Fluffiest rice. Also add a dab of butter. Doesn't even have to be that much. |
| Follow the directions on the bag! It sounds dumb, but different types of rice take slightly different amounts of water, etc. I have never understood why people think making rice is hard. I use a regular pot with a lid and follow directions scrupulously. |
| Rice cooker. I know cooking rice should be easy, but I never got it right. The. I got a rice cooker. Now it is awesome and easy to make. |
| I use basmati or jasmine rice, rinse until the water is clear and cook in my instant pot. 12 minutes! |
|
For jasmine rice it should be a 3:2 water to rice ratio
Bring to boil and let it continue at a rolling boil until you have craters on the surface and can no longer see water above the rice Cover and cook at low heat 10 more minutes then turn off heat and let sit for 10 minutes Or just get a rice cooker. |
I agree with this. I use a Trader Joe's brand from India and it comes out perfectly every time. I boil 2 cups of water and also add a 1/4 tsp of salt and sometimes a tiny bit of butter. When the water is rapidly boiling add 1 cup of rice and stir for 10 seconds, close the lid and reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting. Cook for 25 minutes and rice is cooked. Honestly, the best way to get perfect rice is to have a 2 to 1 ratio of water to rice. If it's not exact rice comes out either mushy or hard. |
