Watching Sex and the City

Its so refreshing to see non botoxed real looking faces!!

Also everyone is SUCH a shitty friend to Charlotte! She is so sweet to everyone and they are all condescending to her in every interaction. Why does she hang out with them??

I dunno, but it's an excellent show. My husband will be out of town on business this week and I think I'll binge watch! Thanks for the inspiration.

Carrie is a shitty friend to everyone. Completely selfish. No idea why any of them would spend any time with her.

I agree.

Charlotte just has friends who are honest with her.

Totally. She twists every conversation back to what's going on in her life. Once I noticed this it was so distracting. "Paper covers rock" is the worst example but there's one in almost every diner/coffee shop scene.

I love this show, but I've always thought Carrie was the worst! So self-absorbed. But I guess she's supposed to be the most "well-rounded" character, while the other 3 have much more specific personalities. She still irks me, though.

I hated how in the first movie, barely a word was said when Miranda and Steve broke up, yet Big leaves Carrie at the altar and the friends drop everything to rescue her. Miranda was married and had a child with Steve. Big and Carrie were playing games with each other around for years so it shouldn't have been a shock to anyone, especially Carrie! Hi

This. And also how she was practically catatonic. Good god, grow the fuck up. It's hardly the end of the world, many worse things can happen, especially by that age. She's just such a useless twat.

Huh, I had the opposite reaction -- Carrie was the most one-dimensional in that the same mistakes kept ruining her and everything came down to her self-absorption. Samantha turned her perpetual singled around with Smith, Charlotte did a 180 and married Harry, and Miranda put her driven careerism behind her to be a mom and be with Steve (well, she put it partially behind her; she definitely mellowed out more in later series). Carrie never changed and kept complaining about her problems since the beginning; in fact, she only got WORSE as time went on.

Ugh.

Never understood the girls who want to "be" her.

Nah - a 180 would be Charlotte marrying someone poor. Harry was more of a 40.

+1

And that's why Big was perfect for her. Aiden was the perfect guy, but it never would have worked because their personalities didn't mesh. A Carrie needs a Big.

YES! Carrie is never really there for her friends but they drop EVERYTHING to be at her beck and call all the time.

If anyone watches Jane the Virgin, the second to last episode of the season, which I just watched with my 20 yo DD last night, is a takeoff on Sex and the City. Of course, that was lost completely on DD!

To me, the worst Carrie moment was when she felt *completely entitled* to Charlotte loaning her the down payment on her condo, which she couldn't afford on her own due to her ridiculous shopping habits. Showing up at Charlotte's apartment - who was unemployed and getting divorced at this point! - to BERATE her for not loaning her $40K!! Completely awful.
