| Just got a cookbook where many of the recipes call for Spike seasoning. I can't seem to find it anywhere. I see it on Amazon but its sold as a 6 pack. Thoughts? |
| Spike is MSG with seasoned salt. Add flavors to the recipe yourself (or find a cookbook with more nuance). |
Hmm...I've got these as the listed ingredients: Salt Crystals (Earth and Sea), Hydrolyzed Soy Protein (No added MSG), Soy, Granules, Mellow Toasted Onion, Nutritional Yeast, Garlic, Orange Powder, Dill, Kelp, Horseradish, Mustard Flour, Orange and Lemon Peel, Celery Granules, and Powder, Sweet Green And Red Bell Peppers, Parsley Flakes, Celery Root Powder, White Pepper, Turmeric, Rosehips, Summer Savory, Onion Powder, Parsley Powder, Mushroom Powder, Coriander, Fenugreek, Basil, Cayenne Pepper, Spinach Powder, Cloves, Cumin, Ginger, Marjoram, Oregano, Thyme, Tarragon, Cinnamon, Safflower, Paprika, Tomato, Rosemary, Celery Seed. So definitely not Accent with seasoned salt! |
| Just get Penzey's or Lawry's seasoned salt. |
Again, that is nowhere near the same. Are you the same PP as before? |
Fine, go buy your six-pack of Spike.
|
| What cookbook is it? Was it put out by the manufacturer of Spike? I would use your favorite non-salt seasoning so you can add salt separately. Like a Goya, Greek, or All-Purpose seasoning. |
Walmart sells it. $2.40. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Modern-Products-20500-Spike-Original-Magic/26381311?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227018087865&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=52561566855&wl4=pla-61981046243&wl5=9008454&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=26381311&wl13=&veh=sem |
Or, you could answer the question, which would be where to buy it. |
No, it is not from the manufacturer of Spike. Not everything in the cookbook has it, just enough to make it worthwhile to seek out and buy. I'd hate to see what those desserts would taste like. |
| I think you can get it at World Market and Walmart. It's yummy BTW!! |
| You can mix your own substitute. Just Google it. That way you know what you are eating, which is always nice |
It’s available on Amazon as a single bottle too, but the Walmart price is much better. What cookbook is this? |
NP. Hydrolyzed soy protein contains msg. It’s made by breaking down soy protein into its constituents, one of which, is glutamate. There are loads of people who “avoid msg” and don’t realize that they have been enjoying foods containing hydrolyzed soy protein, yeast extract, vegetable extract, sodium caseinate, etc without incidence. In spike, there is no added msg, just the natural msg from HSP, nutritional yeast, and soy granules. It’s msg and seasoned salt just as PP said. |
| Is it a vegan cookbook? For summers and vegans love spike |
