You realize that Capital Cotillion and Mrs. Simpson's are completely different organizations, right? So why are you posting about Mrs. Simpson's on a thread about Capital Cotillion? It seems like you're trying to smear them both by confusing people.

Capital Cotillion does not have a discriminatory history and is open to anyone who is interested. You register online. Their only constraint has been matching numbers for both genders. There has to be an equal number of boys and girls (so they can dance). Usually what happens is there are more girls than boys who want to sign up. If you're a girl who wants to join, if you can get a boy in the same grade to join, you can ask to sign up together.

IME, it takes a lot of coaxing to get boys to dress up and dance with girls during the 4th, 5th grade years.

We use the threat of Capitol Cotillion as a disciplinary measure for our DC. Fortunately DC has had enough friends attend to make it credible.

I don’t see much wrong with it but I can definitely see why they are considered unacceptable today. Not letting girls dance with girls and boys dance with boys is really, really icky in 2020. I am stunned that they get away with that. Maybe in Podunk, Mississippi that would be an acceptable policy. They are sending a nasty message to lgbtq kids and making them feel excluded.

Face it, your DD isn’t going to marry a duke or duchess and their most important decision in life will be whether to use the Chinet or the regular paper plates. They’ll grow-up drinking a $10 Zinfandel from Trader Joe’s.
