Report of shooting at or near wootton

How are people finishing things on case search? When I try it says no results found. Is it because he's a juvenile that it's protected?

This is very interesting.

Very concerning why both of these kids were moved by MCPS to Wootton out of their home districts.

The student who was the shooter lives in the Wootton cluster, is what we were told at the parent meeting last night.

The shooter attended Blake last year. That's why there has been speculation that he's been at Wootton on a COSA.

Yeah, families move. Wootton parents are so crazy they need to chill on multiple levels.
d

His family did not move. MCPS moved him and the victim. Neither lives in the cluster. MCPS failed both of these students.

This is not true. The shooter lives in the Wootton cluster. 1. We were told that last night at the parent meeting. 2. We know families that live in the same neighborhood.

You can tell that Wootton families are in denial that a "troubled" kid could come from their own cluster. They're committed to the idea that this was the result of an "outsider." This is POV is linked to racism, because I guess they can't imagine that a troubled Black kid might actually exist within their cluster.

Oh just stop of course Wootton has troubled kids over the years no school is perfect.

One killed his dad.
Another a psychiatrist
Two young women killed themselves together that one Wootton really failed. The first two nothing Wootton could have done.

These boys both came from other schools neither lived in Wootton Cluster. Shooters family is from Silver Spring. Court records are usually correct.

Schools are not mental health facilities. Teachers are not therapists.

What is confusing to me is that normally news outlets interview neighbors, students, etc and they all will share something about the shooter- "so quiet in class..." "didn't know him well but he was always..." nobody knows this kid? Nobody has spoken out about the victim or the shooter? It's just odd to me. Were they fairly unknown in the school and their neighborhood? No friends? It's odd to me.

What about the fight at school that happened earlier that day between the shooter and the victim? Why weren't they taken to the office for fighting? Did not one person see the fight? I'd kids are fighting in the halls do people just ignore it and not get help? Do teachers call security? What happens in MCPs if kids get into a physical altercation? If these kids fought earlier, the school should've intervened and tried to mediate. Sounds like there is seriously no supervision or rules.

Absolutely agree which is why guns are the issue not MCPS. And parents are the issue when they don't get help for their kids and turn a blind eye.

If it is true that the shooters mother and sister were helping him escape mommy is a huge part of what happened here.

Did you read the summary of the bond hearing? The family moved to the cluster. Could they have been new, or maybe there are other details you and others don't know or won't detail in an ongoing case on the kid/adult.

Not op but I've been skimming and I've not seen any more information about the possible fight beside when it was mentioned as a possible motive. Maybe it ended up being just a rumor to try and explain this horrible situation.

With that said, it wouldn't surprise me if they fought earlier and were just sent back to class. I've seen kids having to be physically separated and sent on their way if neither are hurt.

Anonymous wrote:Can someone explain why anyone with an ankle bracelet is allowed in regular school? Back when I was in high school (different state) kids with ankle bracelets were in juvie. Is this a real thing across mcps?

I would like to know the same thing. The bracelet means the kid's been in trouble with the law and barely avoided incarceration. What on Earth are they doing in school, with general ed kids??

We have them in every middle and high school. In a lot of cases, they are being brought into schools like Whitman and Wootton through special programs like SESES or group homes. We defunded most of the separate school placements and it takes an act of god to get a dangerous kid into one of the few remaining spots.

The SESES is not for children who are criminals. It is for students who have gone through the special education process and have been diagnosed by the school system, and more than likely their own private doctors, with interfering mental health conditions. This program is extremely hard to get into, and children who are violent and engage in criminal activities are not the target population. Unless you have first hand knowledge of this program either by sending your child to it, or working in it, I'd encourage you not to try to explain what the program is, or what type of student is in it. There ARE some special education behavioral based programs in other areas that are school to prison pipelines- when I worked in another state and advocated for a student of mine to go to the equivalent of SESES in that state, I was told there was no way my student would qualify because he was truly mentally ill and not a criminal. But MCPS does not operate in that way. Finally, the students in SESES are occasionally aggressive and dysregulated- that's why they are in the program. But, they are also so heavily supported with teachers and paraeducators, social workers, school psychologists, and behavior support teachers, that it is extremely rare that they are the behavior problems in a school.

You clearly aren’t a teacher at a school with an SESES program because your post is totally out of touch with reality.
