ECNL is making deals with rec leagues for SY.

This is not the look pro leagues want to be associated with.

What rec league is ECNL making deals with?

The NCAA

Thanks for clarifying- please sign me up for rec then.

So the NCAA is a rec league and the players are rec players? Right…

Yes, many posters here say pro isn't a pathway for girls (They scoff at the pay). They say girls only want to get college and a "real" career paid for. That basically means NCAA would be rec, at the heart of it. Don't get me wrong, historically, the NCAA was THE pathway to elite levels of the women's game, but the soccer landscape is evolving where that probably won't be the case long-term. It's up to ECNL to decide how to handle. Right now, for girls, it's THE name and can do both. I don't think the NWSL wants to pick any league over another (say GA) but one must wonder what the BY/SY switch may mean.

So what if all clubs with GA/ECNL tell ECNL - give our girls side ECNL or we make a run for MLSN…

Things are about to get interesting.

Match Fit joins the pathway. This GA to NWSL pathway/partnership isn’t a thing, yet. It’s a long way off. ECNL clubs already ending it before it starts.

Give it a month, and clubs will begin transitioning to the GA/MLS Next Pathway. The countdown is on!

It will all come down to which combo makes more money for clubs....

MLSN + GA

Or

ECNL + ECNL

If NWSL even hints at working with GA everyone will run from ECNL.

But NWSL hasn’t and won’t. The only nwsl news this week is ECNL clubs and Gotham FC announcing their pathway.

NWSL has been hands off on youth as much as possible. Eventually they'll need to start functioning like every other big probleague with homegrown rules and youth players under contracts. This is what MLS Next can help with.

MLS Next can't help. MLS is not going to help NWSL. Why would they? Because we are all American? There is nothing in it for MLS. They will not help in this at all. NWSL wants nothing to do with youth soccer. It will be a decade at least before that changes and I have real doubts it will change.

There is no pathway -- that was not what the announcement was.

I think they would give the girl's side to clubs they care about. Not all. Allow the rest to go.

No --- no club will give up ECNL on the girl's side for MLS Next. Not now at least and not this year. They way things change --- who knows but not for a while.

The deal that GA needs is with NWSL not MLS Next. A deal with MLS Next is just dumb.

Where is the NWSL deal? I agree if NSWL made GA its farm clubs then GA would be making progress.

MLS Next knows how to provide a bridge from youth to pro.

Sure NWSL can choose to swim upstream and figure everything out themselves. But this is a HUGE waste of time if MLS Next is willing to provide feedback and assistance.

Sorry -- feedback and assistance? These are for profit businesses. What is in it for MLS Next? Nothing I think.
