And? Yes, the petition was an extreme action. The DCPS (or PJ?) decision to effect reassignment before the end of the year was dramatic.

It's highly probable that there was more going on than any of us outside of DCPS Central are privy to, but from what I've read and heard the issue was not just a lack of competency (which no one can reasonably expect of a first year principal) but of honesty, transparency, and openness to support. Competency can indeed be built up over time, but the other issues were more problematic and suggest that things would not have improved with time.

+1 I agree with this. I just don't know why they didn't announce that he wouldn't be returning and start a new principal search? No one would have had a problem with that INCLUDING all the drunk egotistical incapable angry teachers terrified of accountability.

Maybe he quit?

As of the day before he was fried, he was still meeting with teachers about scheduling for next year.
But it's possible he was told he wouldn't be returning next year and then he decided that means he didn't even want to finish out the year. But if that's the case it's still because of the petition.

Not one teacher has had a recommendation of how things could have been quickly remediated either. There's a lot of dissatisfaction with "how things went down," but no answers as to what should have been done differently.

(There have been basic suggestions like patience! engage with the principal! engage with DCPS! All of which have been happening across the year.)

I get why the teachers aren't excited about more change. But no one has had answers of how else our serious concerns could have been resolved.

I mean, is it okay for a bunch of kids to hate school because of the chaos and misbehavior because trying to make it better might be inconvenient for some of the teachers?

None of them had a group of hysterical parents start a petition demanding his immediate removal. The one principal who's been removed mid year in recent memory happens to be a black man. That's telling. The other mid year removals of principals going back forever have been do to their being scapegoats for DCPS' poor policies. This one...looks to be the same.

The hysterical parents just didn't want him back next year but because they didn't think central office would listen, they demanded his immediate removal (again, because the PTO presidents are hysterical). The spineless IS, having been named personally in the petition and probably annoyed he had to actually do anything, decided to go ahead and remove him so parents wouldn't think he was the problem the way they already though PJ was the problem. And now that the parents have gotten everything they wanted and, in the process, ruined the collegiality they have enjoyed with the staff, are trying to say it's everyone else' fault but theirs. They want to call teachers drunk, egotistical, lazy, inconsistent and everything else even though all of those teachers and problems were the same ones in place when it was a magical unicorn fairy dust school the year before. Don't look anywhere else, parents. Congratulations, your white privilege worked.

Just as a point of correction, our DCPS MS has very organized dismissal procedures specifically intended to make sure kids get home safely.

Meanwhile, everyone else who actually gives a damn about the educational experience at Hardy MS understands fairly clearly that the outcome, while not particularly pleasant, is in the best interests of the school.

The people saying they're teachers on this thread are really teachers. The ones that say they're currently at Hardy are currently at Hardy. Saying they're lying is troll behavior. There's no reason for people to come on here and lie about their connection to the school. No one is getting paid for their fiction here.

The hubris of PTO leadership thinking that this would be well received by teachers is astonishing.

They really misread the room and have irrevocably damaged staff/parent relations in the building. We literally want nothing to do with the PTO at this point.

Go ahead and respond that “I’m a bad teacher” and that you were just advocating for your child and that is your right and that you’re the only ones who care about Hardy and are saving the school, etc. Whatever. The hubris of PTO leadership thinking that this would be well received by teachers is astonishing.

They really misread the room and have irrevocably damaged staff/parent relations in the building. We literally want nothing to do with the PTO at this point.

Go ahead and respond that “I’m a bad teacher” and that you were just advocating for your child and that is your right and that you’re the only ones who care about Hardy and are saving the school, etc. Whatever. Just as a point of correction, our DCPS MS has very organized dismissal procedures specifically intended to make sure kids get home safely.

What exactly are you correcting? Some do, some don't. Not a reason to remove a principal with 5 weeks left.

No one here is calling any teachers such things. Only incoherent Macedonian trolls on here pretending to be teachers while spouting a bunch of tired racist nonsense. Meanwhile, everyone else who actually gives a damn about the educational experience at Hardy MS understands fairly clearly that the outcome, while not particularly pleasant, is in the best interests of the school.

DP. Post-covid, I’m under no illusion that parents and teachers are aligned, or that teachers have the best interests of children at heart. In fact I think I was lectured here about that extensively.

I don’t think that was the only reason. But it’s one fact that makes me believe the dismissal was fully justified. There’s no excuse not to be organized enough to oversee safe dismissal and arrival.
