All of those items are global commodities. The prices are up worldwide. Democrats are not responsible for the greed of global corporations.

Which might be somewhat true to a limited extent.

But it doesn’t matter. Voters - especially independents - will blame dems. And that’s awesome.

You dems actually have people convinced you WANT them paying $7/gallon for gas.

Bravo!

Can’t wait ‘til November

Republicans actually lie and distort the truth just to win elections! You can’t wait for bullies and liars to be elected? Look at this whole thread how dishonest everyone is blaming Biden for everything. So transparent.

Sigh, it’s sad that politicians and the media outlets like FOX etc only spin nonsense rather than educating people about economics. Even the cable news networks that don’t exist solely to fuel the GOP lie machine do nothing to actually explain economics.

Pre pandemic there was a price war going on between Russia and Saudi Arabia. This was driving down prices. During the pandemic, demand for oil dropped to record lows and stayed there. Oil companies had to scale back production and put any investment in new drilling sites on hold as they were on the edge of bankruptcy. When the pandemic eased, oil companies did increase production but not as fast as demand increased. Yes oil companies are trying to maximize profits to make up for losses.

Domestic production increases or decreases actually do not impact prices at US pumps. It’s fascinating but economists have found no correlation between the two. The price you pay at the pump is set by the international price of oil.

Are you sure that it will be $7/gallon and not $17... In California premium is $6.29 in some places

Agreed. The GOP candidates and existing legislators talk out of both sides of their mouths, lie, and often contradict themselves within very short periods of time, all of it recorded as easy to find on the internet, and yet their supporters buy this nonsense? And then wonder why people look down on them. How stupid can you be?

The RWNJ statements on these threads are so irrational, I wonder how these people can function in daily life. What an amazing capacity for rationalization, cognitive dissonance, and self delusion. Either that or they're sociopathic.

Don’t care. Russia/Putin are terrible and deserve sanctions. I would rather walk than buy cheap gas off the backs of Ukrainians.

Was mentioned several times upthread, the investments to expand production are uneconomical to companies like Shell. It would take either some sort of regulation or incentive by US gov for these companies to expand production.

Ignorant question. What kind of laws do we have in place to curtail our unbridled capitalism when the country is at war? Because we are at war and energy availability is a matter of national security.

That is not true production is expanding and is extremely profitable at current price points. The problem, as it were, is more that companies are not convinced that this price spike isn't just temporary. Investments in production capacity take at least a year to start seeing a return. They are holding back because of how hard many companies got hit by debt issues from 2018-2020 and not having a clear idea where the price of oil will be a year from now. Investors want financial discipline and dividends over growth. The market will take some time to adjust but it will. The oil guys also want a pat on the head and a belly rub

That's how the oil industry has always worked. Certain wells are always profitable, as the prices rise, other sources like shale and deeper water become profitable, as the price falls, those rigs are taken off line.
