UMC suburban college student lied about background to become prestigious Rhodes Scholar

Anonymous
Questbridge should be ashamed they gave this serial liar this six-figure scholarship which allowed her to dupe more and more because everyone thinks Questbridge fully vetted her and it signals "poor" and "first generation" among others for the rest of her life. Anyone defending this common schemer is probably a low life con artist themselves.

She obviously misled the university and the Rhodes Scholarship committee. But her life sounds sad and hard. She clearly needs therapy and more support. I hope she finds it.

They obviously read into it but she didn’t obviously mislead.

Her words were misleading. If she’s too idiotic to see that, then she was unfit for admission to Penn as an undergraduate and is certainly unfit for a graduate degree or a Rhodes scholarship. Given her level of academic success in high school and at Penn, as well as the obvious utility of her dishonesty, it is far more likely that she understood exactly what she was doing and is merely unethical.

No they were not, the reader used their lack of knowledge to read into her essay. Penn was just stupid to not understand you can be in foster care 1 year and still be bounced around. They were uneducated to not know kids in UMC families are abused, then Removed from home are then poor. Just as if her mom lost her job and became poor and homeless in her last year of life. She could say she was homeless, just because the reader assumes it’s for year, that’s on them.

Look these universities and colleges are really bad about stuff like this. There is no protection for the students, no due process or appeal process. They usually do a 1/2 a$$ job and make an arbitrary decision. I have work on similar things and I guarantee if it goes to court Penn will have serious problems. She is is looking a large settlement.

You haven't worked as a lawyer on similar things. No, she is not looking at a large settlement. She is looking at a nuisance level settlement.

There is no record her bones were broken. There is no record she stopped breathing. There is no record she was put in braces.

This is from pg 92 where they quote her Questbridge application
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21174416-penn-answer

In her 2015 Questbridge application, MF writes in the additional information section: "Before entering the foster care system in September of 2014, my life was never a fairy tale.. by the time I was six, I knew all of the police officers in my county by first name. By the time I was eleven, Child Protective Services had been called over 14 times regarding various concerns for my safety. At age 13, I had broken more bones than years I had been alive."

Again, from her Questbridge application:
"I was placed in foster care after spending a month in the hospital trying to survive extensive injuries due to physical abuse"
"I do not recognize the person looking back at me... my facial features are so distorted and swollen that I cannot tell them apart. My blonde hair is caked with dried blood. I can't breathe: my ribs won't allow me. I can't sit up: the braces stabilizing most of my body constrain me. I can't smile: my face is too swollen. My body is broken. I force my eye open - the one that isn't swollen shut. Heart rate monitor, iv pump, crash cart. They're all there to make sure I don't stop breathing again... The reporters circle like vultures: I'm their prey. They want to talk about the person who did this to me. The one who almost killed me. The one who is in jail. The one who is my mother. She broke me."

One thing is clear: She is not a good writer. "Blonde hair caked with blood." "The reporters circle like vultures: I'm their prey."

Oh come on. I think she is in the wrong here based on facts we know so far, but this is fine for a teenager.

Makes you wonder how many other kids have figured out the game and are lying on their apps but don’t do interviews with newspapers and don’t get outed by their parents… obviously we saw varsity blues but I wonder if this kind of thing is happening on a larger scale than we think.

She was outed by multiple people from her hometown. Not her mom.

What? Fierceton sued Penn, not the other way around.

If anything the Dean will come out well.

None of those statements have been shown to be lies.

Anonymous wrote:Interesting that little attention has been paid in all these posts to what the plaintiff is actually asking for in her lawsuit.

The only concrete action she is asking for is an injunction from the court to require that Penn award to her her MSW.

Beyond that, she ask that the court use its judgment to provide any monetary and/or other unspecified compensation for her long list of alleged damages.

That’s it.

She could have her MSW if she paid 4K in restitution and apologized. Penn made that clear. But she would rather sue, for reasons that are unclear.

If you read her complaint, her reasons are crystal clear.

So Penn wants an apology? How petty are they? She’s met all the requirements for her master’s.They said so in writing. But they won’ t give it to her unless they get an apology?!! Seriously. And $4K, which is chump change for them. Otherwise they have no objection to her receiving her MSW. So all the accusations about her lies and misrepresentations and violations of the “honor” code are all just hot air. Just blowing smoke. No principle involved that a little groveling and a few thousand bucks can’t take care of. They’re idiots.

Okay, Mackenzie.

Childish.

Guys, she’s still at it.

Her friends are on Twitter right now claiming she personally watched that poor man die. Eg:

https://twitter.com/adotdar/status/1483929041526738954?s=20

But he died in September 2018. And in her complaint she told the court she didn’t learn of his death until February 2020.

Did she lie to the court? Or has she been misleading her friends, using the fact she was deposed as a witness in the wrongful death suit to imply that she was an eyewitness to his death?

Or maybe you’re the one who’s lying. MF isn’t responsible for what someone named Anna Dardick tweets or what she says in her tweets. We don’t know if she’s even acquainted with this Anna Dardick person, whoever she is.

This is one tweet from one unknown person, but you’ve turned that one person into a group of an unknown number of “friends” (plural). Seems to me that you’re the one who’s misrepresenting the facts.

This is exactly how most scams work. You establish a tiny bit of "foundation" credibility and then use it build up more and more fake credibility off the original fake credibility. Pyramid scams, Elizabeth Holmes, Bernie Madoff, Jeffrey Epstein, some of the socialite scammers, on and on.

So now we someone posting who is an expert on “how most scams work” comparing her to some of the most despicable characters in recent history.

Has anyone read the rebuttal to the Penn lawsuit submission from the 2 Penn professors who are advising her? They aren’t backing down from their support of her 1 inch. They are 2 senior professors who occupy endowed chairs. They rach have 40 years of college teaching experience at multiple universities. They know her case intimately. They know how things work at Penn intimately, including policies & procedures. They call Penn’s treatment of her shameful. I’ll take the word over a handful of internet postrs ho know next o nothing about th case.

They all start small and follow the same playbook. She most certainly weaponized that Questbridge scholarship as she became more brazen, lowering the guard of everyone and currying favor. And who knows what sort of life she was headed towards.
