| Posting here on the off chance that other figure skating parents read this board. DD is doing single jumps and will start working on her axel this summer. She was in Edeas but outgrew them and switched to Jacksons Elles several months ago on the recommendation of our pro shop. We hate them -- DD is so small that she is not breaking them in. The skates are just as stiff as the day we bought them. Her coach has commented that the skates are impeding her ability to bend. We are somewhat reticent to go back to our pro shop and are looking for a fitter/skate tech who is experienced with Edeas. |

Yep - Jimmy at Fairfax. You absolutely need an appointment, preferably not on a saturday.
As a side note - our coaches generally don't like Edeas. |
| Thanks for the recommendation -- have heard good things about Jimmy from others but it's difficult to get an appointment. Curious why coaches dislike Edeas and what they prefer. DD's coach wears Edeas, as do most of the freestylers at her rink. Is it just hype? |
| Jimmy announced this week that he is moving - boo hoo - so get an appt stat! |
| I can start a new thread but does anyone have a good skate sharpener...Mike C. in Waldorf has a waiting list. |
We've only ever used Jimmy or Mike. Gonna have to give the new guy taking jimmy's place a spot - John. |
| Jimmy is the best |
|
Where is Jimmy moving to? Will he still be in the local area?
Marlon at Fairfax is great for fitting and sharpening, but people usually ask for Jimmy |
| Love Jimmy -I just took my daughter out of school on a day he was there-worth it to get it done. The whole turn around was 1 1/2 |
No Jimmy is moving overseas.
And Mike at Skater's Paradise does not sell Edeas. |

OP, NP here. My DD also skates at Fairfax and is in similar circumstances (switched from Edea to Jackson, which I think is fairly common at this level). We were told that Jackson is the better choice at this level because of the lateral support. You can skip the top hook if you need more flexibility. When DD is a little more advanced we will think about going back to Edeas.
I had just heard this about Jimmy this week. What a huge loss for the rink. Does anyone know if they are bringing in a replacement? |
|
Bump. Who is the skate tech you recommend now, for fittings, blade mounting and sharpening?
|
Marlon at Fairfax. Jimmy trained him. He’s very good. Need to make an appointment. |

Edeas are very loose at the ankle which is why some skaters prefer them, especially for freestyle. Other skaters cannot fathom skating in something so loose and flexible. My DD is Jackson boot skater only - she prefers the stiffness and support of her Jackson boots.
There are pro shops at other rinks - I do know some people go all the way to Delaware for fittings. We've been happy with the boots fitted by Marlon at Fairfax and get sharpening at Cabin John or through private coaches who do sharpening. You should ask your private lesson coaches for more custom sharpening advice. |
