In other words, we're appeasing some of you by mentioning the school grade thing, but your kid will play in their league designated age group unless they meet coaches requirements to play up an age level |
I'm telling myself that Arlington said Playing up is a coaching and technical decision based primarily on the player’s skill level, soccer maturity, and overall development needs. While Arlington Soccer allows flexibility in certain cases, playing up is the exception rather than the rule. Each situation is carefully evaluated by the technical staff to ensure it is in the best interest of both the individual player and the team. |
SY will be enough to get 99% of players on the field a single grade for college coaches.(with Aug birthdays playing up) GY will stay in HS because it would be a disadvantage for Clubs and leagues to implement it. |
He chooses to ignore that "may be considered" makes the statement care no weight. |
You should tell yourself that Arlington asked all travel players for their grade in school. You know the thing you said they dont and would never do. Reality is coming |
Not even close to 99%, try closer to 85%. August and Sept are not being forced up, some Sept-Dec will play up, and some Apr-July were held back. |
I wish I could poly bet on the things you say. |
Yep, it's why even Aug playing up doesn't even solve it. GY showcases maybe is the only thing that would truly UNLESS everyone's OK with college coaches not seeing exact grade groupings when watching club games -- ya know, like now and always been. |
A voluntary show of hands is meaningless. Are going age, grade may be considered but not likely for playing up as performance is the key. You do know their are thousands of clubs. They all follow the same age group rules without regard to grade. The soccer club gods spoke and they chanted birthdates only. |
Showcases going graduation year has a lot of smoke and now a bit of fire. It makes needing to play in a specified age group less important for some kids. |
Graduating class is definitely not the same thing as school year and clearly says older players as well. Hope it’s not true but this is definitely sounding like grad year showcases. |

Relying on showcases to get your kid recruited for a college soccer program is a hail mary
Serious and credible recruiting happens through individual direct player to coach contact |
Recruits have to be proactive for sure. Being the best player you can be, being proactive by reaching out and getting a high GPA is the ticket. This isn't a secret or controversial. |
So now showcases arent good for college recruiting? Aug birthdays playing on their grade in school team have no issues. Stop the nonsense. |
As other have said. GY showcases wont happen because its not good for clubs or leagues. Think about it. GY encourages holding your kid back in school. This is something neither leagues or clubs want to get involved with. On top of that playing down kills the concept of a team. Which means clubs will make less money when the cash cow paying customers get frustrated and leave because of older players playing down. There's one parent that loves playing down trying to start a GY showcase rumor. |
