You can go to the Montgomery County Public School website and click on the tab for "parents"

on the parent page you will find links for school boundary maps, which will show the entire boundary area for each of these high schools as well as feeder elementary and middle schools, main roads, etc.

In general, Churchill is in Potomac/Bethesda. Wooton, I don't know about.

You can choose any MoCo school to see a boundary map, at

Wootton has better reputation/elite status than Churchill. also has way too many Asian (including foreign-born) students.

I have no intention of starting a debate, but OP should also look at Whitman. It beat out both Churchill and Wootton on US news & world reports rankings. All three are superb, but in MY OPINION (just sharing info to someone new to the area): Churchill is very wealth-competative; Wootton is very diverse, technically, but not so diverse in reality (it is very Asian, but not very culturally diverse and seems kind of segragated); Whitman is very academically/performance-competative.

How in the world do such overly broad stereotypes help anyone make a decision about a public school district?

By the way, you presumably meant to refer to "segregated" and "competitive" schools.

This is such a sad thread.

Too many Asians? Why?

"Wootton has better reputation/elite status than Churchill. also has way too many Asian (including foreign-born) students. "

Why is this a drawback? I love this aspect of where we live and its nice to have the big backyard in the burbs along with some cultural diversity. My 4 year old's friends are all Indian, Chinese, and Korean.

Okay, I am quite despondent as I read this thread. DH and I have been looking in the Churchill and Whitman boundaries for our new home. I wanted a great public school district and DH wanted private. My response has always been "you don't pay for primary school, you pay for college. We can afford to move into a good school district." Well, reading this thread I think we will have to send our child to a private school afterall. A private and welcoming school that really accepts and appreciates diversity. It appears that as AAs, our DC would most likely be an only AA or in a very small countable group in Whitman, Wooten and Churchill. I think reading this post, if the Asians are considered too many and thus unwelcome, how in the world would my AA son hold up under such pressure. So much for the open, welcoming and liberal Montgomery County, MD.

It's hard to take your post seriously, since you suggest you'd make an important decision based on a few silly posts on an anonymous message board. In any event, your AA child would not be the only AA student at Churchill (6.6% AA enrollment) or Whitman (4.4% AA enrollment). If what you really want is a highly-ranked Montgomery school where AA students are represented in larger numbers, you should look at B-CC (16.4% AA enrollment) or Richard Montgomery (17.0% AA enrollment).

Or pick a private school if you want, but don't think that parents and students at those schools can't be gossipy trolls, too.

Please don't believe things you read on DCUM as representative of the whole of Montgomery County. If I were you I'd also look at the areas that feed into Walter Johnson and BCC as well. We live in the WJ cluster and we are thrilled with our community - and are thrilled that WJ has a rep for being more diverse and welcoming than Churchill/Whitman (have no idea about Wooten), regardless of whether Churchill/Whitman deserve that rep or not. WJ also has an outstanding academic program as well. Don't give up hope!
