to PP who said that it was hard to take the post seriously - Really? Would you like to make a decision regarding school systems when all you know about it are people who say that there are to many AAs that go there, when you are AA? That would make you feel good? Regardless of the number of people that say it, that anyone can feel comfortable believing it and expressing it could very likely be very disconcerting to someone who was thinking that the community was welcoming. To find out that the community harbors resentment or racism could be very off-putting indeed. |
Quite a leap to decide not to move to a home in any of 3 school districts because 1 poster said there are "too many Asians" at Wootton. |
Yes, it's hard to take it seriously, because the poster who was making the snide comments about Asians at Wootton may not even live in Montgomery County, be in school there, or have a child in school there. In any event, I suggested some other great Montgomery schools in addition to Whitman and Churchill that the OP might want to explore as did another poster (re Walter Johnson). But if she and her husband have the money to spend on private school, and decide to do so because of a few snippy posts on this forum, I won't lose a lot of sleep over it. |
Indeed. |
PP, throwing around WJ and names of other schools does not erase any undercurrent of racism in some of the "better" areas of Mont. Co. What if these "snippy posts" happened to be the straw that broke the camel's back? How do you know what other types of negative experiences that particular PP has encountered? |
How many is too many Asians? A brief chat with my children confirms more whites, proportionally, at Whitman, Churchhill, Wootton etc. Perhaps the poster has an inferiority complex in addition to a perjorative perspective of Asians. |
Hello again,
My post was not intended to keep you or anyone else from getting your necessary beauty sleep at night. I have been relatively new to these boards and have been reading current and archived threads. It was not simpy this post that I found disturbing in reference to the comments in the referenced school districts, but prior threads as well. When it comes to the Whitman, Wooten and Churchill discussions they all eventually come around to the same conclusion, exclusion and not inclusion. I think this thread simply crystalized what I dreaded most and hoped to avoid in 2009. But, unless you or anyone else have to contend with such issues concerning your child's exclusion based on immutable characteristics you would not lose any sleep. I do and will continue to lose sleep. I do thank you for the statistics. It is most appreciated. |
Then I would suspect that we weren't talking about a camel, but a far more delicate creature. We've all encountered negative experiences, but most of us try to raise strong and confident children and not engage in such hyper-sensitivity. |
So you've encountered racism? |
Yes. In a multi-cultural area such as this, who hasn't? |
