MAMAS midwives

I just discovered MAMAS... anyone know if they will come to northern VA? it looks like they are licensed there...

I'm pretty sure they will. However, you could easily just call and ask them. They are very accessible! Good luck -- they are wonderful.

I did... and total bummer... they won't come to my area. Argh!! I wish there were better options for VBACs in northern Virginia!!!

Check out the NoVa Homebirth site (http://novahomebirth.org/) and the NoVa chapter of ICAN (http://www.icanofnova.org/). Both are great resources for home and/or VBAC births.

FWIW I've heard great things about Marilee and NoVA VBAC homebirths.

OP here...unfortunately, part of the negotiation with DH is that we would use a CNM. why are there so few who serve this area for a homebirth??? arghhhhhhh.
Anonymous
Joey P. is a CNM, so there's that option. Is there a particular reason your husband is set on the "nurse" portion? A CPM goes through just as much training as a CNM, just on a different track.

OP again. I talked to Joey - didn't feel like I "clicked" with her. DH is set on a CNM - quite frankly he is vehemently opposed to homebirth, in spite of seeing BOBB, in spite of my efforts to educate him over the last 3 years. He sees a CNM as close as one can get to a MD, will not consider a CPM. If I could find a CNM to interview, I'm hoping that might turn him around, but since I"m VBAC and there are SO few of them... it's just not looking good.

We talked to a hospital-based CNM who really didn't help my case, but I still have an opportunity to present the other side if I can find the right person.

OP here... also wanted to note that I have been to a few ICAN meetings. Feeling like Tchabo might be my only option at this point...

Would your husband be interested in coming to the next ICAN meeting? It might help him to talk through some of his concerns.

Have you looked into Whitney Pinger or the DC Birth Center? One-on-one midwifery care with either, and you'd even be able to labor at the DCBC (although you'd have to transfer 10 mins to WHC to actually birth). I also know someone who's doing a VBAC with midwife Karen King at VHC in Arlington.

What about BirthCare -- did I miss mention of them? They do homebirths and birth center births.

PP adding -- all the providers at Birthcare are CNMs.

Birthcare doesn't do VBACs.

Peggy Franklin is an RN as well as a CPM, so she has a nursing background. Might that be comforting to your husband? Just trying to throw out other options...
