ECNL moving to school year part 2

Anonymous wrote:Maybe Surf gets MLSN BUT keep ECNL, so they got teams with both age ranges? This maybe the best move for development.

Or, maybe they just get MLSN, drop ECNL because they are good with keeping top boys BY?

No chance

Grouping older players by school year places players in a more consistent emotional and physical developmental environment.
School age grouping will help college recruitment. Players of the same graduating class will be participating together in high-level tournaments and showcase matches.

Rumors coming true. Showcases go graduation year. Playing as the oldest will be able to put together the best highlights, get the best positions, most minutes and coaches attention. Then just go to showcases on graduation year. It's a plan.

Grad year means a tournament where only juniors play with other juniors and so on and so forth. Currently U19 is Juniors and seniors.

Oh come on you two? This is ridiculous. Clubs will go SY for recruitment, if they care at all about recruitment, if they don’t, go some where else. Any club not trying to place their kids for optimal recruitment, doesn’t care about recruitment. Go elsewhere. Period. At the older ages it is about getting your kids in front of coaches when they need to be in front of coaches. If your coach doesn’t understand that, you should leave.

Sigh...

GY is like what you see in HS soccer. Age doesn't matter if you're a Junior you play on the Junior team. Crazy parents often hold their kid back 1 or even 2 years in school so they can be the biggest/oldest on the team.

SY is age bound 8/1-7/31 it doesnt matter what grade players are in. However if younger players are in an older grade they can play up with their grade in school team.

Both achieve the same end result. All players in a showcase game are the same grade.

The problem with GY is if leagues allow it parents will hold kids back in school for sports and you end uo with 16 year old freshman and 20 year old Seniors. You see this in Lacrosse and basketball all the time. Even worse (for clubs) is if leagues allow GY it makes them the same as HS /Private School Soccer and private schools can give scholorships which means that can take over the college recruiting pathway from clubs.

Logic flaws here. Private schools can already give scholarships and colleges will take 20 year old freshman now and not care that they aren't 18. Club soccer doesn't affect either.

The best way to get in front of college coaches is to put together the best highlight tape, play the most minutes, be on a top team meaning all the stuff players get from playing on age and pound the payment to go find your college team. Which is what clubs are pushing for high level competitive soccer. They are already setting up SY in concert to get kids in front of college coaches and showcases by graduation year could help.

Private schools paying scholarships? Isn't that what MLS academies kinda are?
