Was in very small print.
Grouping older players by school year places players in a more consistent emotional and physical developmental environment.
School age grouping will help college recruitment. Players of the same graduating class will be participating together in high-level tournaments and showcase matches.
Yup I said ECNL going grad year for showcases.
No they're not it causes too many problems.
Just have Aug birthdays play with their grade and everything works out.
Rumors coming true. Showcases go graduation year. Playing as the oldest will be able to put together the best highlights, get the best positions, most minutes and coaches attention. Then just go to showcases on graduation year. It's a plan.
Showcases are already GY for Junior and Senior levels.
That's not graduation year.
The u18/u19 level is exactly GY allowing year older players to play down.
Grad year means a tournament where only juniors play with other juniors and so on and so forth. Currently U19 is Juniors and seniors.
Sigh...
GY is like what you see in HS soccer. Age doesn't matter if you're a Junior you play on the Junior team. Crazy parents often hold their kid back 1 or even 2 years in school so they can be the biggest/oldest on the team.
SY is age bound 8/1-7/31 it doesnt matter what grade players are in. However if younger players are in an older grade they can play up with their grade in school team.
Both achieve the same end result. All players in a showcase game are the same grade.
The problem with GY is if leagues allow it parents will hold kids back in school for sports and you end uo with 16 year old freshman and 20 year old Seniors. You see this in Lacrosse and basketball all the time. Even worse (for clubs) is if leagues allow GY it makes them the same as HS /Private School Soccer and private schools can give scholorships which means that can take over the college recruiting pathway from clubs.
