| If you helped your daughter get birth control, which type and why that particular type? My DD is 17 and asked me about getting an IUD. (she;s a junior, top student, no serious boyfriend). Just curious to hear from others who have gone down this road. |

| I took DD to my gynecologist and she gave DD all her options. DD chose birth control pills. DD is the responsible type so I was fine with her decision. |

Actually IUDs are for anyone who doesn't want to get pregnant. |

i work in a college health clinic and IUDs are very common choices for birth control now. |

No idiot. IUD is a great set it and forget it birth control. However, please still stress the importance of a condom. |

This and they're recommended for teens because well, they're easier to remember than a daily pill. But +1 on condoms cause STD! |

| I wish I could have skipped BCP as a teen and gone straight to an IUD. Less side effects, less stress about forgetting a pill and getting knocked up.. |

Also, ironically, my MIL (with my SIL, not DH). Please stress the importance of a condoms as backup BC and STD prevention. Low risk does not mean no risk. |

I got pregnant with an iud. It ended in miscarriage. I use the pill now. |

My DD went on continuous birth control pills as her periods were worse than brutal. Family history of endo.
Hoping the BCPs will also protect her fertility. She was 15 when she went on them. |

Mine also asked for an IUD after friends got it.
I was thrilled to oblige b/c birth control pills require a lot of diligence to be effective and she is a forgetful type. She knew it would have some physical side effects on insertion day (make sure your DD is prepared) and still wanted one. It has worked out well. and she graduated HS without me becoming a grandma, so I'd endorse it. She's early 20s now and just opted to replace it with a new one. |
