Mayor Bowser has proposed legislation to ban backyard chickens:

Having had some experience with backyard chickens:

I oppose this bill. I know that Council Member Grosso is a proponent of backyard chickens, so hopefully he will stand against it.

Dumb law. I've kept chickens too, inherently they're no more of a nuisance than other pets.

This doesn't make sense. I wish my neighbors had backyard chickens instead of their massive, endlessly barking dog.

what is wrong with this mayor? she is sooo out of step with what 3/4 quadrants of this city want.

whats wrong with chickens? How do we oppose this?

the article doesn't really explain why having backyard chickens is a bad idea.

Does she not have enough other ways to waste our money?

does boston, chicago, columbus, pittsburgh, nyc, and philadelphia allow backyard chickens? if not, Bowser is keeping with the norm. if you want farm animals, move to rural or suburban Md or Va. seriously, some of you people are absolutely ridiculous. Just because it's the trendy thing to do, doesn't mean it's needs to be done.

Doesn't the mayor haver actual issues to focus on?

I don't like constantly barking dogs, either. Or stray dogs walking around and crapping wherever they like.

If I wanted to live next to a farm, I would've stayed in Wisconsin. I didnt go to Northwestern and UC and spend a decade working to become a limited partner just so I could look out my window in the morning and see someone's chicken coop.

If there is noise, complain about the noise. If there are odors, complain about the odors. Same with animal waste. But if you don't like the look of what your neighbor is doing on their own property, you need window treatments. May I suggest plantation shutters?

+1 Or a therapist to deal with the delusions of grandeur you seem to have from attending Northwestern and UC.
