| Our elementary school has been very supportive of DC who has ADHD and HFA, no LDs. Even with support, DC is still having some issues with mild aggression and complying with teacher requests. Would it be helpful to have an educational consultant to make sure DC is getting the support needed and for guidance on whether other school options are needed? |
Our educational consultant was pretty useless for this for DS with Asperger's/ADHD when DS was 7 yrs old. What was very helpful was getting a neuropsych eval and the school providing all the supports the neuropsych recommended. We used Dr. David Black. |
| We found a consultant/advocate/other professional to observe in class to give ideas was useful. |
Also, the school did a FBA/BIP with a behaviorist observing and speaking with the teachers and parents. That was very useful also. Our developmental pediatrician also observed but that was not as useful as the neuropsych eval or the behaviorist observing for the FBA/BIP. The most useless was having our educational consultant observing because our school was already giving us all the supports/services we requested and our educational consultant did not have any suggestions/recommendations other than changing schools (which was also the dev ped's recommendation). But after the FBA/BIP and the neuropsych eval, DS's issues were mostly resolved. |
