If you do OrangeTheory, help

How many splat points do you typically earn? I have gone three times now and have earned 24,32, & 40. I have also spent time in the red zone which I think is bad. I want to figure out how to manage myself. I don't want to burn out on this. What's your experience? Also, why do some people get none? It seems like everyone is moving. So confused.

Spending time in the red zone is not bad at all. Most should be in the Orange, then red, then green, then blue. Hell, I've gone above my max suggested heart rate (102% max heart rate). You want to challenge yourself outside your comfort zone, but not kill yourself.

Maybe not everyone is wearing a heart rate monitor? Don't focus on others though - focus on yourself.

I do not wear a monitor anymore. listen to your body. YOu should be struggling but not dying.

This.

Your splat points will vary depending on whether it's a strength, endurance, or power day. Also, on your fitness level, anatomy/physiology idiosyncrasies, and even hydration. And HR monitors are only an estimate anyway. I think it makes more sense to gauge your progress by measuring your resting hear rate over time if you're a numbers person.

the biggest reason for such wide range in how many splat point people get is what their max HR is set at in the system versus what your actual max HR is. OTF used 220-age so it is no terribly accurate. Some people have naturally higher or lower max heart rates.

For me (39) it has me at 191 as my max. However every single on-line calculator I do puts me closer to 183-185. I work really hard in class and the most I have ever gotten is 21pts, A lot of times during a push pace I am right at 83%. I also pretty much never hit red, even when I am doing an all out sprint. I think my max HR is really lower than they have me at, i also have a very low resting HR.

On the flip side I have a friend who spends almost the entire class in orange or red, easily gets 35-45 points/class) despite feeling like she isn't really working that hard. i suspect her max HR is actually higher than where the formula puts her.

You really need to judge by how you feel. Despite what the monitor says, I know when i am in the orange zone/really working. You should only really be hitting the red zone during max effort, like a sprint at the end of a push.

I am convinced my monitor is malfunctioning or my low blood pressure impacts my workout because o have never gotten more than 7 points. I do like the workouts so I might stop wearing the monitor because it does not really matter.
