We moved to Loudoun County Schools back in 2014. When I was there I noticed teachers would wear jeans everyday and even t-shirts... Now in Loudoun County I noticed that the teachers don't wear jeans doing the week...(only on Friday of course)... Why doesn't FCPS have a dress code but LCPS does?
Teachers should wear a nice dress or a tie and dress pants every day. How many teachers are left that still take pride in their appearance when they go to work? Show the kids that it's an important job to be taken seriously. A start would be to dress the part. in fcps?? |
| A dress every day? Are you serious? With the younger grades and all of the getting on the floor they have to do? Then you will be complaining that the dress is too short and should be 2 inches below the knee. Not to mention the poster who said her DC saw cleavage on a teacher. Plus, why do you care about FCPS if you left? |
| I don't know what kind of dress code FCPS has, but I do know that the principal plays a role in determining the rules for his or her school. We got a new principal in our elementary school several years ago and teachers were complaining that the new one would only allow jeans on Fridays instead of every day. |
| I don't care what teachers wear-let them be comfortable. They are professionals who can decide what's appropriate. |
|
What defines a nice dress? Classic? Stylish but not too trendy? Nordstroms? Certainly not Target.
I call troll. Are you in the schools every day looking at the Loudon and FCPS teachers? This post must be a joke. |

Please cite the LCPS dress code.
I teach in an elementary school. I typically wear Docker (or Docker style) pants and a polo or button down shirt or sweater depending on the weather. I don't feel i need to wear a tie and dress slacks. I rarely wear jeans, but when I have I've worn a nice pair with a dress shirt and sport coat. I am often complimented on that look. If jeans are okay on a Friday, why not another day of the week? |
NP. To answer that question, Casual Fridays became an accepted practice about 15 years ago. |
LCPS Dress code is khakis or dress pants
|
| Sorry that yet another one of your threads was a Fairfax Underground reject... |
| At my FCPS elementary we have jeans only on Friday. I generally wear pants because I teach music and sit on the floor daily. |
| Not in FCPS but I wear pants and a shirt everyday and jeans on Friday. I get glue, dry erase marker as well as snot on my clothes so nothing I wear will be nice. |
| OP, your comment is way too let-them-eat-cake. The job is inherently physical and dictating any but the most minimal dress code is arrogant and patronizing. |
|
At my FCPS school, we can wear jeans every day if we like. Our principal gets that we are on the floor with kids and need to be comfortable. She is clear that they should look neat and cannot have holes, tears etc. When we return in August, she shows slides of acceptable and unacceptable jeans at school. The only other "dress code" rules are no t-shirts with logos/lettering and no flip flops.
I love it and so do my colleagues. |
| We're down close to $60 million in the budget this year and this is what you're concerned about? I don't know anyone who cares about this issue. |
| The more important question is why you haven't gotten over this despite leaving FCPS years ago. Time to focus on your own school district. |
