This isn’t a big ask if she’s actually a democrat running for school board.

That is more than fair. She should have to state her position, and they should align with the Democratic party if she wants its endorsement.

I am thinking back to really weaselly answer she gave on AEM, I think it was about APE's refusal to take an issue on masks back during the winter surge. But now she's not representing APE, she's representing herself and potentially the Dem party, so let's MAKE her state a position.

Tellingly, I see NO support for trans kids rights on her website. That is a big red flag for me.

I’m going to flat out ask her next time I see her. I have a non binary child and this matters to me.

She tweeted in support of the trans student who spoke at the cnn town hall with youngkin. Sounds like she supports the rights of non-binary kids.

what did she say exactly?

I’m so proud of this incredibly brave APS student. APS students deserve to use the bathroom with dignity

Her website also talks about supporting all students and calls out both orientation and identification.

I’m just waiting for some of the crazies to come out and say that their daughters aren’t able to “use the bathroom with dignity” if trans students’ rights are upheld. Whose “dignity” does Miranda support in that scenario? I don’t know anything about her politics, but nailing down the very specific position matters. Words that can be turned around and used to defend opposing views aren’t helpful.

yeah supporting all students actually sounds like Youngkin's position.

Kind of like saying All lives matter

Ok I looked up Miranda's tweet. Miranda said "I'm so proud of this incredibly brave APS student. APS students deserve to use the bathroom with dignity."

What the hell does using the bathroom with dignity mean? It could mean anything, really, including making him use one of those extra bathrooms like Gov Youngkin said, instead of letting him use the boys bathroom like he currently does.

I also find her response kind of condescending. Who is she to be proud of this student. I'm sure he would appreciate her commitment to upholding his basic rights instead.

It would have been easy for MT to say definitely that she supports trans kids rights to use the bathroom and play on the sports team of their aligned gender. It is really telling that she did not say that at all.

Yeah, there’s nothing hard about articulating a clear stance on this issue. If she’s been unintentionally vague and our concerns are misplaced, I assume her campaign checks in on threads like this and will promptly update her campaign website to express her views with more specificity. She’s a lawyer. I suspect she already chose her words carefully.

Does school board get to set trans policy re bathrooms and sports? I thought this was decided by Richmond? I get this is a hot button issue but it doesn’t really matter what the school board thinks, right?

I’m going out on a limb here that if someone suggests a trans student should be able to use the bathroom with dignity that they mean the bathroom of their choosing. The Miranda derangement syndrome is strong here.

Seriously it’s the same three people just egging each other on in a vacuum. Convincing themselves that they’re gonna sink her candidacy just because they got fired up watching the CNN town hall.

First thats not what she said. Second, she is being intentionally vague and not giving a clear position.

I think it is also shameful that Arlington democrats endorse a person with no ties to and no knowledge of APS or Arlington County, and worse, literally zero interest in Arlington County and no stakes here at all. What on Earth are they thinking? This whole SB race is unbelievable.

This whole race is a great example of why the political parties shouldn’t endorse school board candidates. What a dumpster fire.

Agree it's a dumpster fire. We have two awful candidates. This is what happens when people poison the environment. Who would want to run?

So the Miranda camp thinks there are only 3 people who want her to clearly support the rights of trans kids?! Well, this is going to be interesting.

I am a parent of a trans kid. It is very troubling to me that she is obfuscating on this issue. She is a lawyer. She could speak more clearly if she wants to. She's being intentionally vague. Not ok!!!!

What specific civil rights violations at APS are you concerned about? What has happened? I am not an APE person, I’m asking bc I’m curious.

Well I also think people know the school board isn’t an independent board. It’s controlled by ACDC. The whole school board situation is one of the most selfish power moves I have ever witnessed in this county. It’s morally wrong.
