Is this rude or is it just me?

First I invited my mom to go to an ice skating show with my daughters. I bought her ticket. Before we went I bought her food at a restaurant as well. When we go there I spent nearly 100 more dollars on more food/snacks. She didnt offer to buy anything. She also kept eating my daughters popcorn so they kept running out.

Now, I bought tickets to go to the movies. I originally wanted my husband to go with us but she talked me into letting her go. I know that I'm going to have to buy everything and I cant just buy stuff for myself and my girls without offering her something, I feel rude.

I thought it was just common sense to pay for your own food, especially if someone bought you the tickets? It pretty much ruins my mood...

Well it sounds like maybe you have a strained relationship. I would gladly do all you mentioned for my parents.

You sound really petty. I am sure she bought you a lot of food throughout the years.

It's not rude, but you're going to have to figure out how to set boundaries. when you go up to buy your snacks, just order for you and your kids and pay and then step aside and let her order/buy her own.

(a) This isn't a general parenting issue, move it to family relationships

(b) You invited her, that means you pay.

(c) It's your mom, she raised you, fuck yeah, you should pay for her.

When I invite friends out, they pay. They're grown people. I don't take care of adults.

It's just you.

The only part that would bother me would be eating the kids' food. When I take my mom somewhere, I plan to treat her, and she often treats in return.

Your mother is not friend, and odds are you will, or should, end up taking care of her as she gets older.

Ice skating show you buy food because you invited. Movies she invited herself so she pays for her food.

That is petty. If OPs husband went as planned there would have been costs associated with him.

You should pay for your mother and then some.

Do you realize that close family does not follow the same rules are extended acquaintance? You seem to have a lot of resentment against your mother - is it because she can afford to buy things herself, but lets you buy it instead?

I don't have a lot of disposable income and find concession food gross, unhealthy and overpriced, so first I wouldn't buy anyone food. I'm already paying for entertainment, we eat before or after at home.

My parents have paid much more for me than I have paid for them, so I would be pleased to buy them tickets, if I can afford it.

If you invited her, and she's family, I can see why she'd assume you are paying. And in this situation I would pay for a parent. Though probably not a friend. Then again I can't think of any friend without kids who'd want to attend anything like this so it wouldn't come up.

This. Plus I bet your daughters will do the same bitching about you soon. Good luck lady.
