Is there a "NOVA penalty" for UVA?

Anonymous
Just wondering if students from NOVA need better grades/test scores (when compared with students from other parts of VA) to get accepted at UVA. Or is this just a rumor?

Quotas by high school not county. Better to be in a lesser H S.

If you want in at UVA, go to NVCC and avail yourself of the guaranteed transfer admission process. The criteria are not hard to meet. Secret is getting out, though.

Better to be in a mediocre-plus high school.

of course. schools look for geographic diversity, including regional diversity within a particular state.

By NOVA penalty, do you mean getting stuck going to a school where everybody is from NOVA?

What I have seen at McLean HS over the past 6 years is about 10% of the class gets in to both UVA and W&M.

It is by region, not by individual HS. It has been this way for a number of years.
