Once you figure in camp, how much do you think you spend on childcare each year? (for those who don't have a SAHP).
I think we spend close to $22K.... |
| We have three in elementary and do full before care and aftercare plus 2 "clubs" a year. Including those, school lunch and summer camp, we spent $21580. We don't do sleep over camps, as they aren't currently in our budget. |
| For each week of summer camp I spend between $200 and $450 so that's between $2000 and $4950 per year per kid. Before care is $200 a month per kid and aftercare is $200 a month per kid - so $2000 per year per kid for each service. |
| Two kids, cost per child ranges from $6000-$7000, depending on the camps. That's extended day plus 8 weeks of camp, two of which are sleep-away. We vacation during Spring break and don't use camps for random days off school because DH or I can WAH. |
|
$325/month for before/aftercare. $400/week if I send to the most expensive of the camps we use. Only doing 3 weeks of camp this year due to scheduled trips (2 weeks) and grandparent visits (3 weeks). Also use about 5 days of drop in full day care on school closings at $60/day. = $4750/child max this year.
On the other hand, I still have one in full time daycare and that costs me over $20k per year. 2 years and 5 months left. Not that I'm counting. |
| Camp plus classes after school and drop in aftercare costs us about $10,000/year if only 1 child does overnight camp. If both do overnight camp the cost jumps to closer to $15,000/year. My kids do overnight camp and one or two weeks of a specialized camp. |
That's only 8 weeks of summer. What are you doing for the rest? |
|
$320/per kid for after care
$200/per kid for a week of camp between Christmas and New Years $2300/per kid for 10 weeks of camp We typically vacation for spring break and take 1 week of vacation in the summer. One parent stays home on odd days off during the year/snow days/etc. Grandparents come for Friday after Thanksgiving |
I think DCPS only has 9 weeks of summer this year. Unless I counted and booked wrong. There's some overlap days between our vacation weeks and grandparents visits that eat up those 5 days. |
| We're spending about $4,000 on camp this year for 9 weeks because one of the camps is extremely expensive. (almost $1800 for 3 weeks.) Other than that, we spend $327/mo on extended day (afternoon only) and about $20/month on gym childcare. I work from home or take vacation on teacher work days, snow days and holidays. |
| Kids didn't want to do camp all summer last year. We hired a nanny (college student) who took them to the pool and swim team. Both kids did one week of camp on different weeks. It was far cheaper than summer camp all summer. The kids relaxed all summer and were completely ready for school to start. We are doing this again. Far more relaxing! |
Oh and it was $4k instead of $8k. During the school year, we spend $120 for aftercare a month, roughly. DH and I stagger our schedules and I work from home twice a week so our jobs are pretty flexible regarding time. |
|
Fortunately we don't have to do camps so just $5K for aftercare.
For summer, DS will go grandparents for 2 weeks. Then my brother will come for 4 weeks, and then I will take off 5 weeks. There is about a week of overlap between me and my brother. DS also spends winter and spring break at his grandparents. |
| 2 kids. DH and I stagger start/stop times so we don't have childcare during the year. Camps will run us about $6500 a summer total. |
|
One kid. Aftercare until 6 is free. $600 for spring break camp and 6 weeks of summer camp (8am-6pm). All breakfast and lunch are free too.
For random days off and winter break I work from home or he goes to his dad's office, or my mom visits. |
